One of my aunts has a dairy farm. Once the milk's been delivered to the co-op, she'll have leftover, which she trades with an artisan cheese maker and a man who raises beef.

My mom used to trade out of date Hostess cakes and bread to a local farmer. He would feed it to his cows to kerp them regular. Wr got to pick crops offhis farm. Where his farm was back then was called "Gumbo Flats". It is now "Chesterfield Valley". A high price shopping area.

The farms of my youth still exist, though one is designated as "Organic." That area, however, has seen a huge upswing of antique shops and small "country" boutiques selling to NYC weekenders and such.

I go to a few of the farms' markets and receive major discounts, like paying $1 for all my veggies LOL

We have to travel to the city, where all the farmers bring their products to sell. We have indoor/outdoor markets here. A dozen roses for $6. Fruits, veggies, spices, you name it...on the cheap

We have farmers' markets in my city, one two blocks next to my Catholic church, one inside of an old theater. The church one I love: they have HUGE raspberries and blackberries when in season. The theater one has great baked goods.

There is one that is closer, but it is more expensive. It is sort of the experience going through the farmers market.

The ones in the country, most of the people know me, so it's nice. I'm directed to the good vegetables.

There is finally a fruit stand out by me, but the quality is not as good and the price is high. Miss the old days of going into the fiels and picking it. Mom used to sit me there as a toddler. I would eat right off the vine.

In my youth, the Saratoga National Historical Park, about an hour north of me, had wild strawberry and raspberry patches. They would allow children to go out and pick. It stopped when someone whined about not being able to do it himself.
