for the ladies in the group.
I was out at karaoke a few weeks ago with Porph's room mate the kitty-kat (lovely 6' tall full figured redhead DD, you fellas should try being in a room with them both ) and we were looking through songs for me to sing. I hit on the Queen song "Fat Bottom Girls", which I've always thought was a celebration of big girls. The kitty-kat responded that it was offensive & degrading due to the words they use.
We dropped it so as not to spoil the evening with a fight, but it left me wondering......how do you ladies feel about that song, or other uses of words like "fat" that can & probably have been directed in a hurtful manner at you? I've seen very loving stories written about BBW's where words like that have been used as a form of endearment. Is it context? Always an insult?

I would have to say that I feel uncomfortable when songs like that play or when they have fat jokes in movies (I REFUSED to see Shallow Hal in the theaters) because I feel like it makes other people look at me. So its not so much offensive as it is kind of like shining a spotlight on what I consider the bad part of me.

"Fat"-insulting or depends on context?

Did you see the "Friends" episode where Ross wrote the list of pros and cons of Rachel and the Asian girl he brought back from overseas? Rachel said that it felt like someone whose opinion meant the most to her just said all the "bad" things she had ever thought about herself. That's what i think of when anyone i care about calls anyone fat-I feel like "gee, I wonder what they really think about me." I know my friends say I'm sexy, though it's obvious I am a bigger girl than most, but it never seems to sit right with me-like a part of me always thinks I'm the butt (no pun intended) of this big joke and I'm the only one who doesn't know what's really going on. No matter how much Brian tells me he loves me just the way i am and that he loves my body-I always hate seeing myself in the mirror, and I always feel slightly ill when I walk away. I wish my self-esteem did depend solely on someone else's opinion, in this case, because I would feel great about myself if I felt about me the way he does. But it's inside me that I am fat, and no matter how thin i get, i will always have that voice inside saying how gross I am, and I shouldn't eat anything, and so on. That's why it means so much to me to know that there are other women who feel just like me, and although I love all of the guys on here, and they make my days with their sweet compliments, I need the connection to other women who really understand where I am coming from the most.

how for my sharing part...
in feburary.. my extremly overweight aunt died.. one of the ppl who worked at the nursing home was a friend of one of my other aunts... well "jody" came in everyday and goto know the family as my aunt was at the nursing home for well over a month... she was always bubbly and some days u wanted to shoot her in the head.. but she always could make u smile with the one sigature thing she did every single time.. even just thinking about it makes me crack up
she would come in shakin her booty tsaying the happy fat lady is here or something along that line..

so as james was wondering..
i guess it just depends on the person and the maner the other is using it as... joking around does not bother me cuz i know im fat and im happy about who i am and what i am.. i think lol

OK..i just want to put my dollars worth on that question james asked..and yes ya'll i said dollar.

Well..this is from my point of view. I personally don't get offended with songs that make comments or say things about "fat girls", i know i'm a bbw and i'm a fine ass one at that, and there isn't anyone that can tell me different. To some i may be bbw, to some a cute fat chick, to some ugly as hell or whatever. Everyone is entitled to his/her prefrence. Some people use manners when voicing an opinion, and some don't. I do know some bbw's i hang out with that get thier feelings hurt with comments and they cry, and i keep telling them they need to rise above that shit and get over it already. I hear people at clubs talking about skinny girls too, u'd be surprised how many of them get dissed as well.
I also know that for every ignorant person trying to talk shit about my weight, there's 2 more behind that same stupid ass person trying to get my number and hook up with me.
BBW's we need to stop letting these people get to us..because in the long run, these same people ain't doin shit for you. All the negative energy and tears i see my homegirls cry irritates me, i have feelings too don't get me wrong, however, instead of crying about it and being self conscience i kept telling them..to go buy an outfit, do something to pamper themselves and step out to a club KNOWING they look good, and they'll see..that even non bbw lovers can instantly be turned into one!!! LoL

Yeah...what she said!! Girl that is EXACTLY me! I admire Doll and Ciph for how they can KNOW they are hot stuff but I just cant find it in me to believe that!! No matter who says it or how they say it...i just cant do it! I need therapy or something! Even when i was married and my hubby loved me and my body, it just wasnt good enough cause i knew there was someone somewhere that thought I was gross!! A lady friend of mine who I've seen her self esteem grow from the lady who was so worried about what ppl would say about her if she posted her pics here.She now is a very confident lady who realises that the fools who put her and others down are the insecure ones and every lady who is pleasent is much more attractive than the bitter trendies with their half starved egos matching their ugly attitudes.
