This bulletin board is a business folks. Get a fucking clue. Just because you don't pay doesn't change the fact that it is a business.
While Laurel does not charge for the site as a matter of her own beliefs, there is cash flow involved. Something this big cost's money to run. Lots of money. Laurel chooses to recover her investment in other ways.
Now, like every other biz there is a management structure. There is the owner and the various managment types. These are represented by the system admin people and the Forum moderators.
For years I was a sysop and then a wizop on CompuServe. A sysop was roughly akin to the moderators here at Lit. Each assigned to a particular topic area. A wizop was above the sysop. Wizop's oversaw entire forums. Each had certain restricted powers. These powers NEVER extended to an invasion of privacy. But C'Serve is a different beast and all forums are highly moderated. Most forum's on C'Serve are bigger than all of Lit.
Within each topic area in a forum there was a sysop area that was only visible to the sysops. This is where they communicated with each other concerning problems and issues. Think of it as a middle management meeting area. Wizops had the same facility, albeit at a higher level.
This is the way that business is usually organized. Those sysops and wizops that abused their priviledges were either replaced or banned altogether. It happened from time to time.
So, Lit. has a moderators forum? I'm not sure that that is true. But it would not come as a surprise to me. Actually, if there were not such a forum I would be more surprised.
THIS IS A BUSINESS!
If you have irrefutable evidence that a moderator has read a PM. Take it to management. You know who they are. Discussing your inuendos on the open board in an attempt to foster a palace revolution is a waste of time and energy.
If it upsets you that this business, one that costs you nothing to participate in, actually has a management structure. Fucking leave. Go find one that doesn't. Maybe when you get tired of talking to yourself, you'll be back.

PS. Thank you Laurel. Your patience is admirable.
