Bare breasts in the privacy of your home...

A Utah woman who fought against criminal charges after being seen topless by her stepchildren in her home took a plea deal Tuesday to avoid having to register as a sex offender if convicted, her lawyers said.

Tilli Buchanan, 28, had challenged the state's lewdness Law, arguing it was unconstitutional on the grounds that it discriminated against women by making it illegal to show their breasts.

...

Buchanan had been working with her husband in their garage in late 2017 or early 2018 when they both took off their shirts to avoid getting dust on them -- which the stepchildren, ages 9 and 13 saw. When the children's birthmother heard about the incident, she alerted welfare officials because she was "alarmed," and charges were filed.

The stepmother faced prison time and would have had to register as a sex offender for 10 years if convicted. Richards said the stakes were too high for Buchanan if the case went to trial.

...

Buchanan and the American Civil Liberties Union of Utah had referenced a court ruling in Colorado that overturned a topless ban in the state and helped fuel a movement -- which has seen mixed success fighting similar ordinances in other areas of the country.

Are we a nation of prudes?

;) ;)

The other side of the story was that it wasn't just an accident - they stripped either in front of the kids or knowing that the kids are in the house, and continued to stay semi-naked even after they walked in. Cause some ideology.

So it would seem. And obviously a case of child weaponization.

Having her register as a sex offender was indeed too much,
but If I were the natural mother, my alarm bells would go off.
Too many creeps around to go with their 'woke' 70's story.

And even if the couple's side of the story was true
As a child - a stepmom to parade semi-nude in front of me in a secluded home just the 4 of us? As opposed to a nude beach with people around?
Sexually inappropriate and creepy as hell.

What happened to "natural?"

Then again, it's Utah...

There's an irony and catch to the story that I'm missing since I'm not up to date with American Feminism or Utah, could you pls. spell it out?

We are relentlessly lectured that the body is a beautiful thing.
We are constantly admonished that xyz is 'her' choice.
We are supposed to sit quietly while Hollywood bombards us
with nudity and sexuality, because that is simply "art."
(Isn't 'art' supposed to reflect real life?)
We teach sex education in the schools at earlier and earlier ages
with he expressed caveat that understanding sexuality makes for
mentally healthier children despite anything the parents might object to.
Yet, let a parent show a breast, or two, and suddenly this is an
unnatural, unhealthy and even a criminal activity/event.
She's lucky the state is letting her keep her children for
doing that which directed popular culture tries to sell as "beautiful."

Not all parents share the same ethical standards.

Right?

;)

[I.e., was that the privacy of the home?]

Sure but apparently J Lo and Shakira can't. Or shouldn't. Because they're hoes. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

As stated above, who cares what they do

IN THE PRIVACY OF THEIR OWN HOMES?

Work on reading before popping off.

While I support the rights of nudists especially in their own homes, this involved kids that didn't belong to the woman. I personally don't agree with arresting her because of it, but I would've put on an old top in this situation.

I support a woman's right to bare her breasts any time, anywhere she wants. Because I'm all about women's rights. And I like boobies.

Aah..

There are two aspects to the discussion:
1. Re the birth mother's reaction:
That was the stepmother's version of the story.
One can't really tell, if it was innocent-stupid-or accident, or something more to it. But on this issue I'm with the birth mother, she did the right thing -- better assume the worst, than take a risk with children.

2. But focusing on the State side:
Indeed, the debate side that you're referring to is interesting. Good topic.
Both totalitarianism and lack of foresight (just like the conundrum Islam rights versus Women's rights with Sharia courts in England)..

The early sex ed. and transgender stuff have gone so off the wall... Stupid feminists and social workers ran amok, or some dystopian State control shit?

response to post #18

I think that this is a case of the divorcee still trying to run/ruin
her former husband's life more than one of seeing a tit...

IN THE PRIVACY OF THEIR OWN HOMES?

It's creepy because it was just the four of them in an intimate space.
If I was 11 and my stepmother was topless on the beach, I wouldn't have freaked out.
But within my personal space? Kind of sexual.

Even if it was some sort of 70's woke fad, it doesn't speak volumes about their judgment -- knowing that the kids were in the house.
But me thinks there's more to the story - maybe they were drunk and disinhibitted.

Neither do I, that was too extreme.

But I imagine the birth mother going back and forth: was it just a 70's stupid fad, or subtle grooming? She must have gone mad with the "what if's".
I can't blame her for calling Child Services for help, I would've done the same.

Unless it was a divorcee spiteful tactic, like SC said.

Child Services called the Police, what was that about?
