I have to agree with you. A single complaint -- think about that: a SINGLE damned complaint -- from one person, and suddenly, there's action. It's not fear of subjugation, it's fear of litigation. And that's pretty damned sad. We would rather compromise our intellectual history than stand against selfish and spurious legal gain.
Shakespeare had it right: First, we kill all the lawyers.
What's worse, the 'disease' is spreading.
England's second city, Birmingham, has a wide diversity of population, from the Caribbean via Africa to the Middle East. A couple of Christmasses ago, they (the governing Council) decided that Christmas, as a festival, was not going to be celebrated (at least, not by that name). After consulting widely (but not the old-fashioned white population, according to rumour), the settled on "Winterval".
The fact that they permitted celebrations of Eid, Duvali - by those names - and others seems to have bypassed the good Burghers of that famous city.
There was a wholesale row, in the press and general media.
And it was all because Someone thought that the name "Christmas" might upset the foreign incomers. Rumour has it that even the community leaders in those ethnic groups had to smile at this particular (and costly) daft idea.
