Why is Lit using pop-up ads now? I understand that this is a free site, and that advertising must be used to keep it that way- that's why I click on the banners around the site. What I DO NOT appreciate is being bombarded by 6 pop-up windows (especially those that respawn) everytime I travel to any "www.literotica.com/" page. Pop-ups are not successful advertisements- they simply irritate the surfers, like me, who enjoy the content of the site! I beg the administrators to address this issue!

Its not Literotica.

It's likely that you have inadvertantly installed spyware/adware on your computer.

the most likely culprit Gator

I haven't seen any pop up ads, are you sure they are coming from Lit?

I'm ad free as well... Todd's probably right on

But even so... does that mean that everyone gets a spank for Lit being naughty?

Ad free here!

I LOVE LIT!!!!!!

*chuckles* I still have to fix my computer, though.

I agree with Todd. This has happened to me.
It is not lit! :)
I have pop up killer and it never happens.

Gator like to piggyback its installation with other programs usually giving the other programs distributers the referel fee.

Could it be me?

I run Lavasoft's Ad-Aware to make sure adware/spyware isn't running on my computer. I'm almost positive that's not it. But what other popup killers do you guys use?

Thanks

Thanks, Todd. I appreciate it. It would have broken my heart to find out it really was the site and not me! :)

I concur. Not Lit. And for that, I thank Laurel and Manu.

My system tells me when something is trying to pop up, and asks me if I want to let it. Nope. End of chain popups.

I can also turn off the Java command that opens them.

ok

Ok, so it's not lit. I got it. But I'm getting creamed with popups from nowhere. It's still irritating. I'm not exactly computer illiterate, and I'm not used to losing out to evil ad people. I humbly beg for suggestions!

It does or at least I have worked it on XP

XP isn't listed as a supported OS on the webpage, but I'll give it a shot

Thanks again, Todd. I'm trying it now, and it seems to be fine. I sincerely appreciate that advice. And thanks to everyone else who pointed out that it was me and not Lit. I won't say anything bad again!:D

Cat people!! I DEFY YOU!

Um... I AM on the other hand computer illiterate. Help! what do you all mean?
I'm freakin out here!

Trey,

Sometimes BAD computer people install things on your system without asking your permission. They're able to do it secretly by "bundling" it with other software. That is, you install one program, and while that happens, another secretly installs itself. That garbage then tracks where you go on the internet and feeds it back to a company, who sells the info as "market research". That's known as spyware, and for some reason (probably fine print), it's not illegal.

On the other hand, you'll also find garbage programs that "pop up" advertising windows when you hit a certain site. That is, you come to Lit and all of a sudden you have five or six other Internet Explorer windows inviting you to come see what this girl is doing to that horse, or you visit a wrestling site and get some windows offering you free trial drugs that will add 3 to 5 inches, GUARANTEED! That's known as popups, perhaps the most evil form of advertising known to man, and what I found myself eating just a few days ago.

The moral is that the internet is not a place to be around if you're computer illiterate. Ignorance leads to opportunity (think every old person scam you've ever heard). No, Microsoft and the government are not secretly tracking every little thing you do, but it only takes a little effort to stay informed, and the benefits are worth it. Hope that helps a little! :)
