Bad ending to a good game.

Well we had one hell of a game last night, and I'm still thinking about it.

So much to think about.

We went into the game with an unenviable win loss record of 6-1. (Yep that's right, six losses to one win.) What the hell we're a new team and we're out there having fun.

The game was a good one. We were playing one of the better teams and almost holding on. At the top of the Fifth Inning we were down by eight runs. I led off with a nice single. We were working smoothly and I advanced to Third Base with one of our power hitters coming up to bat. His last time up he dropped the ball right at the fence line for a homerun. He walloped the pitch for a nice pop. I waited and watched it and when I knew it wasn't going to be caught took off for Home. I'm quick, I move like a cat on a hot floor. I hit home and ran it our to the Backstop when I heard a scream from the diamond.

Our Power hitter had decided to slide into second. (He was safe, the second baseman missed the catch.) Unfortunately the base didn't give when he slid into it with his roght leg at an odd angle.

I was the first one to reach him and took over. I was the one who cut off his shoe. It was strange ordering R.N.'s around but I did it. (We have a total of 5 R.N.'s on my team.)

From what I saw he had a Closed Compound Fracture. Tibia and Fibula, just above his ankle. By the time Rescue showed up the injury had been imobilised and he was doing okay.

What amazed me though was that the other team lined up and shook hands with him as he was being wheeled off the diamond. They also gave us the game. As their Team Captain put it, it's only a damned game.

I have to agree with him. I would have prefered to take the loss and have all of us walk off the field.

You exist in an enviable circle of fine folk, Cat.

Best wishes to your Power Hitter.

Good luck to your buddy, Cat.

So nice to see people acting with ethics and empathy these days. :)

A rough way to end the game for your power hitter. I am hoping that the fracture was not displaced and that you can report to us that he is in a cast and prognosis is good for a complete recovery.
