Have some new pictures taken via a Digital camera, tried using Irfanview to resize them for avatars but it is not working.
Can anyone recommend a good resizing program or website that would be able to help me please?

I use GIMP for all of my photo editing. It's very much like Photoshop, but totally free. There's a learning curve with it, but I find it far more intuitive than Irfanview, and you can find loads of free tutorials on the GIMP site itself and by googling what you want to do (e.g. 'resize images tutorial GIMP').

Maybe give it your best shot and report back?

What is the problem? What isn't IrfanView doing?

FWIW, newer cameras take huge pictures, up to a hundred times the size permitted for an avatar. Reducing a huge picture to avatar size in one operation is generally not going to produce a satisfactory avatar with any image editor. Try reducing your original by 50% a couple of times before reducing the image to avatar size.

My current avatar I resized using an online site, will try those tips with Irfanview and see what happens this time around.
