Autumn Valley OOC

Young Ann-Margaret was pretty hot.

Although just now the original Wickerman popped into my head and that naughty scene with Britt Eklund. Hmm. Will we be burning a Wickerman or some corn dollies for Samhain?

If we need more women or can't find another one I'll step in and make another. I had a few ideas spring up nod and then.

I can always play another char or two. I'm used to being in group threads and Playing 4 main chars and NPCs as needed, so not a problem.

It would make sense to have Kayla's tree/house in the fey section of town--on the outskirts and possibly part of the farmland the fey occupy

That's not quite the point. I suppose it depends on how the town was laid out, but since it was there Before the town settled, and then one of the first houses.... unless when they built it, over the years it drew the other fey around it, hense why it is a fey district, and the two built away from the house so that it ended up being on the outskirts... yeah i like it :)

Oh, and in the UK, we're more prejudice against ginger haired people, rather than the deeper red. Carrot coloured ginger. Dont ask me why, I dont get it myself, it's just something that developed. I looove red hair :)

We could do that. There was no shortage of Scottish immigrants in the Northeast.

So I had an idea and I'll just throw her out there. Lemme know what ya'll think.

Name: Renee McClain

Age: 18

Personality: Renee is as sweet as the treats she makes. She always wears a smile and has a kind word to say though she is somewhat shy around a person she might find attractive or in a position of authority. While she outwardly displays aura of innocence, Renee enjoys to let loose and party from time to time and can be quiet devious when a situation warrants (especially after a few pints).

Background: The McClain family lived in Autumn Valley since its founding and had been bakers for even longer than that. Renee is the second youngest child of Benjamin and Cassy McClain with two older sisters Amber and Jamie and a younger brother Brian. The family run bakery has remained in the same place since Renee’s forefathers established it centuries ago. Her father and mother run the day-to-day duties of the bakery while their children help out as needed. Of all their children, Renee had the most dedication and skill in both primary practices of the family. While the bakery earned the coin for the family they were more than just simple bakers. The McClain family came from a line of diviners that combined their love of cooking with their mystic powers.

Called Aleuromancy, the family used both flour and dough to foresee the future. While such a practice was far from as flashy and awe-inspiring as some residents of Autumn Valley it was a helpful skill regardless. Renee was a rather potent practitioner of Aleuromancy, a gift that her parents happily nurtured. One of the novelties was a special bread roll they baked with small messages baked into them, much like a fortune cookie. Many locals and tourists alike sought out this treat if only for idle curiosity though more often than not the tiny pieces of paper offered sound advice and hints of the future.

That is an intriguing idea. Curious to see her among the residents.

This is very interesting. Are you still accepting characters.

Unfortunately, we're nearly full up at the moment. We have one (possibly two) other writer(s) we're waiting on an official character bio from. If there are any dropouts though I'll be posting in the Existing Threads Seeking Writers thread, but it will be first come, first served.

Well thanks. It kinda burst in my mind while doing some research for something completely unrelated.

This is what I meant, I didn't word my post properly. But yeah, the old oak tree with a dryad already in residence would be a beacon to other fey, so other fey would set up housekeeping nearby.

In the novel I'm working on, the girl's many-great-grandmother (in the 1820s) was the one who brought an oak sapling from Ireland along with some herbs and had accidentally trapped some fey in the sapling and that's how they crossed the Atlantic and got to the New World.

Just wanted to pass along my greetings to everyone involved with the thread, I'm looking forward to writing with you all. A quick thanks to Doc for the acceptance of my character, and to HotKittygirl for her recommendation and feedback.

And also to express my gratitude to the ladies of the thread that are willing to assume the role of multiple characters, HKG and haremfaery in particular, in the pursuit of maintaining a favorable male/female ratio for us fellas. Thanks, ya'll.

Edit: And yes, I agree with the proposed add/drop policy, sounds fair.

so just to be sure we're cool to post? I had little bit for Sig but wanted to be sure in case we were still holding off.

Name: “Cody” Eldridge Dillon
Age: 27 (In actuality 47 years old)

Appearance: Cody appears to be an athletic 27 year old white male. He’s fit but on the skinny side with long curly brown hair and blue eyes who looks like he should be in a Led Zeppelin tribute band. He’s usually tan in the summer months. On his upper left bicep he has a rather large medieval green dragon tattoo which starts just below his sleeve ling and continues on to his back. Tattooed across his back is “a Deucalione” which is Latin for A long time ago.

Personality: For the most part Cody is an upbeat friendly guy who is pleasant to everyone in town and visitors alike. He get’s up every day with the thought that there is so much to accomplish and only 12 hours to do it. If people were to find trouble with the man it is that he’s too busy. He’s always going from one place to another, but he’s more than happy to take time out to chat with a friend or neighbor. Just once he’s involved with a project whether it is wood working, stocking the store, or searching the Internet one should drop by personally otherwise other attempts to contact him will be ignored.

He considers most customers coming into the store potential friends. While he will often bring a book to read after finishing h is meal at the Black Cat anyone who begins a conversation will have an interesting intelligent person to pass the time with. He has a gaze that speaks volumes, and many note he has a very old soul….

Background: Cody a nickname that he was given by friends while working at a number of Renaissance Faires over the years was drawn to Autumn Valley several years back. In the beginning he was living out of his van, but eventually moved into the upper level of the local general store. After working at the store which had fallen into disrepair for several months he purchased it (some say all in cash) from the Petersons a friendly older couple. The store in one form or another had been an intuition in the town for over 100 years, and the Petersons where glad to see a young person take it over.

Long before all this though Eldridge Dillon was a well respected scholar, jack of all trades, and wizard. Stories vary about his abilities, but what is historically known makes him an interesting figure in Edward 1st’s court during the second half of the king’s reign. He and the king clashed often over politics and the treatment of the people in his realm. Whenever he was out of favor he’d travel. He trekked all over Europe and the Holy Land, and is even rumored to have journeyed to the new world. He was a friend and associate to many members of the Knights Templar, and was among the few outsiders to see their vast library.

Many asked his advice about important matters, and heads of state always valued his incite though he preferred to remain in the background. He was at home drinking among peasants or debating with scholars and other learned individuals. He always considered himself a common man who simply was trying to reach his full potential. History doesn’t know what came of this interesting individual, but the residence eventually found out even if they didn’t know it.
Simon Applegate was an incredibly bright, but unstable young man who played at being a modern wizard. If any true wizard was to rate his ability they would probably remark that he knew enough to be dangerous. After the death of his parents the young magic user began embarking on more and more dangerous experiments. During his attempt to channel the skills and powers of many other wizards through history Simon made a horrible error. The powers from beyond pushed back at the young man who was trying to achieve godhood and rob others of their abilities.

Simon was literally yanked from his body and sent to another dimension, but with the process already begun and mistakes made Eldridge was pulled forward in time. As compensation Eldridge was given the transformed body of the young wizard, but was told little could be done to improve his situation. While grateful to be alive and much younger Eldridge found he lacked many of his powers, but made the best of a bad situation. So after putting out the basement fire he began learning about this new time and place.

He spent months in the house of the former young wizard learning about the new world. If found it confusing, but interesting and like a true scholar he took on the task like any other project. He found the Internet to be a very valuable tool and used it to order things and even to meet people. He passed himself of as Simon’s cousin, and with the use of computers and a little magic he was able to transfer property and money to his new name, and began selling things off.

After about a year he struck off in search of fun and adventure like any young man should. With the sale of the house and other items he had enough money to enjoy himself and travel though as he’d done in his passed he kept things low key. He’d work as a laborer, bar back, and as mentioned earlier his knowledge of the middle ages was very valuable at the Faires. Most towns he passed through remember the young interesting man who spent hours at the library.

Eventually he felt a drawn to Autumn Valley where he pulled up in his van, and hasn’t left since. One morning while getting his coffee he began talking to the kind elderly couple behind the counter. He was in need of a new job, and they needed the help. He got along well with the Peterson’s and it wasn’t long before they were treating him like a son (their son Danny had died in Vietnam).

When he found they were no longer able to do the work, but were financially unable to retire he did right by the couple. He paid them much more than the property was worth and helped them move into a senior community near Boston. They still exchange emails regularly, and Cody keeps up many of their traditions like a soup, sandwich, and soda for lunch for $5.

More to come about the store and Cody's abilities, but I just wanted to get something up for the good doctor to read.

Pending approval the second of the two models on this page. I like trains an this picture happened to fit what I was looking for http://www.raggstoriches.biz/AGSsidepage.html

A bit of a stretch to the tone, but still workable. Is it possible we can tweak it a bit to keep to the folksy tone? Right now it's a little higher fantasy than I was going for.

Okay sure...what are you thinking? It just came to me as I went...but I see what you mean.

Just off the top of my head, the idea of a sorcerer misplace in time might be something like Rip van Winkle. Perhaps, he came to the New World when they were still colonies and a prank by the fair folk resulted in him waking up 200 years later.

Like I said, off the top of my head. I'm sure you'll come up with something better than that.

I like that...perhaps add some details to the why or how, but I'd still like Cody to be a jack of all trades...just old skills. *S* Perhaps he was learning a few things from a local witch which explains his few skills. He didn't learn very much before being put into a sleep. I will figure it out.

I need to go meet friends to work out, but I will sit down and edit this tonight. getting over my writer's block now.

Nothing worse than staring at a blank page. The first 10% of my writing process is throwing every idea onto the page. The remaining 90 is editing, trimming, revising, organizing, and just generally turning it into something I can stand to look at without asking myself, "What the fuck was I thinking?"

LOL...yes something like that, but that's why there is a OOC thread. I will get to work on that.
