Okay, I have an idea.
In past writing workshops and groups I have been in, we have had author challenges, where each week an author puts forth a challenge to other writers to create a short story using certain criteria, themes, places or even certain vocabulary or phrases. The stories that come out of these are usually quite good and almost always interesting. An example would be:
"This week's challenge:
Create an erotic story under 1200 words that has this criteria:
1. Story must be set in the 1920's.
2. One character must say something in French and wear a blue silk dress.
Story must involve these things:
1. Ice cream.
2. Sewing.
3. Calligraphy writing.
4. The Opera.
5. A green knitted scarf.
6. A jazz band.
7. A shrunken head!
This is an example but the criteria usually has a few mundane things and then a couple of really bizarre things to make it a challenge.
Does this sound like a good idea?
