Recently i've been asked to write stories for a website, which is great, but I was wondering is there anyway to keep the payments away from the tax man ? I'm not keen on dodging the IRS but i also dont want to lose my anonymity in the erotic world and paying taxes on payments puts my real name on record for good.

Any suggestions ?

If it's a reputable site

1. they will report the payment to the IRS

2. they will keep your personal information private

I have read a lot of outrageous claims on the internet, and especially this forum, but I think this could be the top.

Tax problems caused by writing erotic stories?

An author who does not want anyone to know he is an author?

Unless your boss or your mother is a site admin, I don't see how any of this can be a concern.

Erotic incest story writers dont exactly bring in a lot of good publicity if they ever do get a job writing mainstream some day, books, articles, etc.

No matter how *outrageous* it sounds to you, I enjoy keeping my private life private and if I ever do make a career out of writing I damn sure aint gonna put Lit./incest category on my resume.

Now if ya wanna do the whole "He's lieing, he's an attention whore, idiotic thread, etc." then go get your kicks elsewhere. I was asking if there was a relatively simple way to keep my real name out of any transactions, and was hoping someone on here knew how.

The usual way for established authors, who use a pen-name, is to do all transactions through a Literary Agent. Only the agent would be able to connect your real name and your pen-name but YOU would have to declare the income (from the agent) to the IRS.

There will be some name attached to the story when it is posted. Just ask them not to put your real name up there.

The chances that someone may connect your real name to the incest stories depends upon how many people you tell about the site. If you can keep your real name out of the hands of the fans and refrain from running for public office, there shouldn't be a problem.

I have written for pay for a couple of Web sites. I didn't take money directly. I had them pay for some subscriptions to other Web sites I would have paid for myself anyway. No reportable income; no need to reveal true identity.

I was afraid of that, but anywayz, thnx fellas for genuine input on the matter, I appreciate it.

Have any of you folks that are writing for hire set up a little corporation? It's not my area of law, but I have friends and family members who have done it for small consulting-type services run out of their homes.

Seems to me that your laptop, your internet connection, the nifty ergonomic chair under your ass, maybe a couple of dinners, and a convention or two would all become tax write-offs for the business.

It would lessen the tax sting while playing within the rules.

If anyone ever offers to throw money at me for writing my drivel that's what I'd do.

Cheers,

-PF

Yes, but for my mainstream writing, not for erotica.

I dont understand the ecrecy about what you do. Florence King wrote 50-60 fuck books and makes it public knowledge.
