And I suspect fortification is a good idea. I had a really nice cabernet rose last week. It was a hot evening so a chilled wine with our Chinese meal was perfect.

Didn't give me any clues about dealing with being traded in, that I didn't already know.......

But the wine is pretty good!
:D

I wouldn't have doubted your word

Must make it hard to get some private time, or can you give them all a couple of bob each and send them out to the pictures for an hour or two?
My son and his family live in the Channel Isles, so I don't see them all that often. It's the Perth ratbag that has stolen my heart.

Anyway, enough about me... do you have any children? Or shall we restort to the tried and trusted subject of sex?

There used to be a good British cop show set in the Channel Islands, called Bergerac. Great show, loved it.

As to the fruit of my loins, I have a daughter with a single friend who realised that she wanted the child but not the hassle of a partner, and asked me to help.

My partner has a daughter from her marriage, but she is now adult and living across town.

Yeah... Bergerac was filmed on the island of Guernsey, which is where my boy lives, it's unbelievably pretty there, and the port is absolutely beautiful.

Victor Hugo wrote Les Miserables while living on the island.

And there are still German bunkers doted around the island from WW2. Germany came so close to taking England, it's scary.

Yes, the port featured in the show, as Bergerac (John Nettles - now in Midsummer Murders), was always meeting colleagues from the mainland, or watching for crims arriving or departing. Of course this was twentyfive or thirty years ago, I am guessing.

I didn't know that, thanks

Mmmm, the Germans occupied the island (I can't recall whether they actually had all three islands, or just one or two of them) for a fair bit of the war didn't they. And there were collaborators and an underground movement, just as on the French mainland.

Yes... there's a lot of history on that tiny island.

But, what about you... how has your day been?

Relaxing, but I kept thinking it was Sunday for some reason.

I started as a volunteer driver with the Commonwealth Games yesterday, and start work in earnest tomorrow. Its a six day a week, eight hours a day role until the end of the month; of course, my regular work has to fit in there somehow too.

I don't know what I was thinking . . .

What about you?

What a good man you are.. no doubt you'll have interesting stories to share after the games, and some you can't too !

My day has been very lazy. I had a late night last night, so have slept and slothed with style and grace. It's a public holiday here on Monday, but I'm working, so am making the most of this quiet time to recharge my batteries.

It's bloody hot here too... so glad I have a/c. Not looking forward to the power bill though.

I don't know about 'good man', I'm going to need some help running things and thankfully that has been willingly offered.
As to what I can talk about, there are guidelines, but not too tight. Anyway, while I was in Sydney for the Olympics I wrote stories from the Harbour City as emails, this time it's a blog http://carryingthecommonwealth.blogspot.com/

I hope we've passed much of the hot weather, 30 - 33 has been the rule the past few days, heading for mid twenties during the week. Still, the cars I'll be driving are airconned, and my house can be cooled quite quickly when the breezes blow.

Do you get the Doctor?

Thanks for the link... I'll go read it now.

As for the games, I'm on call 24/7 to help man an emergency call centre should any Aussies ever be involved in a disaster, be it caused by mother nature or man. Obviously there are concerns with terrorism with the games, which is why this national centre is being put into place now. So you take care.. and watch for bad stuff, ok.

I live in the land of Rolf Harris, with the Swan River just down the road from me. Yes, the doctor visits. My home is old with bare floor boards and high ceilings so it doesn't heat up too quickly. I'm really quite lucky.

OMFG what am I going to do now???
Enhance it of course. Reputations don't just happen, they take work.. be proud, flaunt it... make the world jeaous.

We have to check our Games cars before using them, and go through security scans at some venues.
When it comes to this, the bad guys have won. Thanks for your concerns, and I'll keep my fridge magnet with me at all times!

Sounds wonderful (apart from Rolf Harris - no he's OK, really) I'd be gracefully slothful on a weekend in a place like that.

Do you remember our conversation recently about zucchinis?
I had roasted Zucchini flowers stuffed with blue cheese (and something else) at MoVida, a tapas bar in town the other night. Thought of you!
