Evening

Well, brachytherapy (radiation) is not going too badly. I haven't yet got the radition burn, but I am assured it will happen. And I will definitely be left with a bald spot on the top of my head.
But it's better to have a patch of no hair than the alternative.....

I am sort of planning to get to the V8's here in Tassie in a couple of weeks, but am holding off buying the ticket until closer to the date. It would be nice to go though...

The weather has suddenly turned cold - someone must have pointed out that it's Autumn! - so beanies are back for me. So are hearty soups, gluhwein and bed socks!

So sorry to hear that you're having to go through radiation for your melanoma and will end up with a bald spot. My friends Dad had treatment about 6 years ago now (he had a bald spot to start with ) and he's still cancer-free. It's a pretty rough treatment - be kind to yourself and yes, slow down! Good luck with the rest of your treatments.

You've got a very good attitude, WQ. I think that is the most important thing when going through such a traumatic experience.

Not much new here - I had a date a few weeks ago...reminded me why I'm a solo mother by choice! I haven't given up on men, just given up with being the one to put in the effort. And quite frankly, I'm still so tired from the kid-induced sleep depravation that when I go to bed, I just want to sleep!

Lots of people are being "let go" at work and more redundancies are on the way. Fingers crossed that I have a job next week!

I love my life with my son...never been happier, to be honest. I've got counselling tomorrow to talk about my brother ... I've not seen him in over a year and want to keep it that way. Mental illness is really tough. He's been rehabilitated and they say he's "well", but I can't cope with him. He still rants and babbles nonsense and is very mean. Poor guy, I feel so sorry for him, but I've spent my life trying to "fix him" and help him, but I'm out of energy. Now my kiddo gets it all.

So far, so good. Radiation is almost over and I am hopefull that this series has zapped it - I have a follow-up with the oncologist in a few weeks, and he'll give me the results then.

Got to go to Symmons for the 3 days of V8's
Ended up with sore feet from all the walking around!
But caught up with my boys (Craig and Jamie) and made plans for dinner with Marcos (have personally known him for a number of yrs as I used to live next door to his Aunt).

Hoping for a quiet Easter this year.......maybe a bit of family time, followed by a movie day at home! I need a rest

I wouldn't say Canberra is boring its just like a big country town that has 30 min peak hours, traffic jams are virtually non-existent and shopping mainly happens on weekdays. No point having free parking in the city centre if nothing is open. Good thing is that everything is only 20mins away from where you are. Has the largest traffic roundabouts I've ever seen, even larger than the Arc de Triomphe. Not impressed with having to pay for the shopping centres though. They should have a lane for kangaroos though, they do hold up the traffic. And don't get me started on the crap taxi service, its like entering a chook raffle. But a nice place to get away from city living. We all should visit Canberra at least once.

Well here we are at the start of April, three months down already. People can finally buy Easter eggs that have been sitting on the shelves since late Feb. Personal favourite is the nougat egg, lasts for a long time. Noticed that it has got smaller over the years.

Yet another reform for Defence I see. As usual the reality is being underplayed in the name of efficiency, if only the public knew the truth they might not be so complacent. More people losing their jobs and more private industry meddling in the defence of the country. Will only end up costing more not less.

Hello to the new people. Keep posting when you can. Things tend to be slow here but people keep coming back.

Good to see the Aussies win the ICC World Cup for a change, hopefully the form will continue. The next ashes tour should be interesting given England's poor performance. They may need Freddy back.

Well its been a wave of warm weather here in Melbourne town and lots of wind which means seasons are changing. Last chance to do stuff around the house before Winter gets a grip.

Where the hell did that budget crisis get to? No major changes yet we are 50% better off since it was announced. I'm rather good at statistics, but I must have missed something. The Libs must have had chicken little on the payroll.

Ah yes another Easter has gone by with something for everyone although kids must have lots of questions about how eggs, hot cross buns and Jesus all link together and let us not forget a bunny delivering choc eggs, although if they see any presents left by bunnies, someone should warn them, those aren't unwrapped choc eggs.

"Well children a long time ago there was a Mexican named Je-us who owned a bunny farm, his mother was famous for her sweet fruit buns. Je-us was very forgetful so his mother to remind him to deliver his homemade chocolate eggs at the right time of year would put a cross on the fruit buns she gave him for lunch. He would make his deliveries with his favourite bunny named Easter. When Je-us died his bunny would continue to make his deliveries once a year. As to why meat was not eaten on the Friday, well that's down to hooker named Magdelina who took Friday's off."

Careful, you might start a robust discussion on whether to use fruit or no fruit. The newest thing is to put chocolate in there instead of the fruit. Why can't they just leave things alone. I'm sure your buns are very edible

Waiting for the cool to come down here. Had a week of blasting heat then a week of being almost winter and now it is gloriously spring like. Only times I like being in Brisbane is Autumn/Winter and Spring.

Hiccup in the recovery mode, but meh...one gets that. I can state unequivocally that I hate hospitals....a necessary blessing at times, but I do understand when you talk about waiting times, Elfie lad.

Not much happening outside of the hospital rounds and trying to get the renovations restarted. Have a quote to put fans in the other rooms of the house, and replace the existing ones.....damn...though more expensive to run, I could have airconditioning at these prices the Electrician Highway men charge.

Not too sure now about the floor sanding....being an older home, when they put down the floor coverings some 50 years ago, they glued the lino to the floor and since then every owner/tenant has glued and nailed the next lot on top. sighs....just is a pain in the rear and not the type of good time pain. Rather have a flogging ...at least I enjoy that.

Well I can do some plumbing. Good at fixing leaks although rising damn is more structural. Its usually better to let the flow run its course. May be more tweaking is required before you find something to seal the drips. Its not so much the length but girth that makes the best seal.

The illness that has kept me from doing manual labour seems to be dissipating. At least I can use both hands again. I'll be able to tug on both nipples at once
When you have something that confuses GP's and specialists you come to the conclusion medicine is a bit of a guessing game. Certainly challenges your ability to continue to function and no there has not been any positive experiences from this long term illness, just frustration.

Maybe you need to provide incentive to a fit young lad to do the back breaking tasks in regard to the floor. Personally I'm not a fan of tiled floors when that was in vogue. Now it seems everyone wants polished floor boards then you need carpets so the boards don't get scratched then they need re-sanding and re-polishing. Lots of work and ongoing expense. The good old lino option for the kitchen still seems a good option. A better option may me that click wood panel flooring. No polishing needed and very low maintenance but still gives that wood look.

Spent two days this week waiting for tradies to turn up. Not that I had to take time off work, but still it soaked up two whole days which could of been better spent. Tried a new mob that has their promise to customers in the title of the business. Only used them because they claimed to have local tradies thus ensuring better service. Nope didn't happen, then they had to leave again for more supplies even though it states they have all their supplies on board therefore no need for them to restock. Won't be using those guys again. Been an expensive week.

Winter is definitely on its way to Melbourne town. Leaves are falling and thankfully daylight savings is over. Happy that I don't have to get up for work on those cold Winter days in the dark. Although I would certainly rise to provide a reddening of one's cheeks.

Afternoon all,

Well pensioners certainly have been in lots of discussions lately. The casual observer would be forgiven in assuming that pensioners and elderly people in general are a burden on society. I would be happy for the govt to pay back all the money I have paid in tax over 33yrs in the workforce. That's tax at the higher level. Not forgetting the provisional tax I paid for a number of year. Wonder how many younger people have been educated on those taxes.

It seems the younger generation is also after the money tied up in the family home and their parents super payments as their entitlement. Just a shame their parents are living longer and how dare they spend money which should be given to their children. May be we need to go back to the days when old people where left on the road with a bowl and day's worth of food. Certainly would solve the issue of what to do with these old folk.

Being close to my own pension, which I am funding myself hence not govt funded, I wonder what the younger generation will think when they reach pension age. Perhaps they will whinge about how tough pensioners have it and that they should get a greater share of what their children are earning. Just part of the me generation I guess. If it wasn't for the need to pay for pensions they could afford to buy their own homes. A logical argument.....I think not.

May be if smoking Joe would spend less on whisky and cigars he may be able to contribute the dollars to support the people who need it the most. I doubt guys like Johnny Howard, Kevin07 and smoking Joe himself will be struggling on a pension.

My Mum has been visiting me for the last 11 days - which was about 6 days too long! -
I love her dearly, but she's just too much to handle.
She's a hoarder....the total opposite to me, as I'm so minimalist I'm completely Zen....and I have spent the 24 hours since she left cleaning out all the crap she left me! I got rid of all the plastic bags she folded (for future use), the bits of paper she cut into convenient sizes (because you never know when you might need a scrap of paper to jot down a note), the paper bags (for ripening fruit), the empty boxes (for packing), and the conveniently cut old sheets (for rags).
I also threw out the bits of string, the 7 rubber corks, the empty jars, and the rubber bands.
My home is starting to look like mine again! Sadly, my recycle bin is now overflowing.

I need to de-Mum!!!

Life zooms along at 100kph, doesn't it? Not enough hours or days, really. Lost a few oldies in my family over the last 12 months. I need to find time to see those left more..... I have the chance to visit France later in the year, if I can raise the cash. Free accommodation is too good to pass up. So, it's my time to be more like WQ and less like her mum, and clean out and sell up! Wish me luck, I'm fighting very strong hoarder genes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well WQ when she does pass away, you won't need to buy a coffin you can make one from all the items you find. A final statement in recycling.

I have to do a de-clutter myself to transition away from my working life, plus to make a future move in the next few years. Might as well get rid of stuff now that I won't need to pack.

Can empathise with your mum. I keep some empty containers mainly to use for painting and keeping various hardware items and you can never have enough lucka bands, ask any kid

The only thing I've retired is the alarm clock, well sort of. Looking forward to the pension in about 18 months, so still living of my savings until then. No real urge to get back into the workforce. My expenses are well under my forecasted spending. No major repairs required on the house, however will do one last reno in the next 12 months. The trend in the neighbourhood is to buy a house and replace it so no point putting much into the reno works. Painting is probably the main task just to freshen up a couple of areas.

Due to may ongoing illness, doing any physical work has been a no go since late Nov last year. Only just feeling well enough to start doing some physical work. Still going for specialist appts, not sure how long that will go for. On the positive side I can use both hands again. Looking forward to the time when I'm totally cured. Has been a challenging time. When the medical fraternity are at a loss and can't give a proper determination of when I will be cured, its just a case of persisting and trying to stay positive. Rather annoyed I lost the whole Summer without achieving anything. Did manage to finish a couple of video games which was about all I could do. Saw lots of TV and had no idea there is so much news on during the day, so I'm up to date with what is going on in the world.

If you haven't been to France I would suggest learning some French, especially if you go to Paris. They don't like it if you don't try to speak French. They will pretend they don't speak English. Depending on the café, they might charge you extra for sitting outside, its an old trick they get lots of tourists on. South of France is much more friendly to English speakers. If you wait for the traffic to stop for you to cross the road you'll be standing there a long time. Just keep the locals between you and the traffic, its safer. Just be prepared to be hit on a lot, they know you aren't local.
