Faith in whom? The gods of our ancestors are lost to us -- as is any culture that isn't a product of slavery and our languages. Cubans and Puerto Ricans are much more African than we (African Americans) are.

God by any name whether it be Ra, Allah or whatever is the basis for faith. Aquinas put it as "The uncaused cause"..the reason why we go on.

Africans in the diaspora are people of tremedous faith, and strong in spirit....nothing broke that. They could be still on the Continent, in the Carribbean, the US, Oceania, where ever but the thing that is undeniable is that we all still maintain vestiges of our life before bondage. Uncanny isn't it, that I can greet Koori in Oz with a simple tip of the chin and they understand me?

You can see that we have faith in the way we do our hair, the way we dance, even how we talk back at the screen during a movie. Some may deny it but we held onto it.

FluffyZ thanks for making me think tonight and everybody else that posted here. I hope that you keep the faith in your comfort level. Sometimes we just have to believe in the unthinkable. We all have to believe in something even if it is just ourselves.

Badasschick a lot of truth in what you wrote. Even if one does not believe in a set religion, a higher power they still have to belive in themselves. It is the way we present who we are to others that can demonstrate the strength within us.
