Dear SmartHartFart.

Why?

xo,
Appy.
Because that is the way it is. There are certain truths about our reality, and that is one of them. However....

There is a little theory put forth in it's grandest scale by White Wolf Publishing in it's game, Mage: the Ascention, known as Consentual Reality.

Consentual Reality states that the world is the way it is because everyone thinks that is the way it is. People who attempt to shape the world while operating on the assumption that the theory of Consentual Reality is a fact are usually thought to be crazy. But who knows...? Maybe there really are small purple monkeys that ride our back, and a few individuals have figured out how to talk to them. Maybe the world really was flat until Ferdinand Magellan convinced his crew that it wasn't, sailed around the NOW round earth, and eventually everyone believed it, cementing it into reality. Maybe there really was a species of fly that sprang forth from rotting meat, fully grown, until the completely uncodified theory of spontaneous genesis was "disproven" by scientists. Maybe the only reason there aren't faeries and dragons and goblins and such is that not enough people believe in them anymore. The conventional wisdom is "I'll believe it when I see it." But what if the true reality of the universe is that you'll see it when you believe it?

In "The Sandman: Dream Country" by Neil Gaiman, there is a story that describes this theory quite well, albeit in a much more frightening sense. The following is from www.wikipedia.com.

A Dream of a Thousand Cats
This is a curious story concerning an inspirational cat with a vision of an alternate reality where cats are huge and humans merely their playthings, tiny servants which groom their bodies and which the cats can kill at their pleasure. She preaches her vision to motley assortments of wild cats around the world, hoping that if she can make enough believe in and dream of this reality, the world will change to conform to their dreams. Although seemingly a complete diversion from the basic story of the Sandman, it in fact illustrates one of the core themes of the series: the idea that reality is shaped in the most literal sense by the dreams, beliefs, and expectations of humans (and, in this case, of other animals as well). It is also a welcome break from the human-centric stories of the rest of the series and serves as a reminder that dreams are truly universal.

The catch is that the world the cat sees actually existed, and a lowly human in those days did the exact thing she is doing now, which lead to our current incarnation of what we think of as "real." The end of this story is subtly sinister in a way that can only be described as perfect. I highly recommend it and the entire Sandman series to everyone I meet.

I'm cool with that. I can attempt to catch them in my mouth until it's full or they dissolve.

I liked Key to Hell, but on an artistic level; Gaiman writes a good story, but his dialog feels contrived.

Might Sage Demon, this has been driving me batty for a few hours now...

What is the name of the song and the group which sings "help is on". And no, it is not the Beatles. It sounds like rap or hip hop and was popular in the mid to late 90's.

Please help so I can download the song and stop having the one line play over and over in my head...

Dear Vandal-

btw.. I have a song for you- and littleone too in my song thread.
but anyways, my question is:

why do people fall in love?

I believe I can field this one.
People fall in love, because otherwise, life is too simple.

Think about it...
If we only needed to take care of ourselves, and maybe a few friends, we could do practically anything we wanted.

But, when heart strings get plucked, suddenly, someone else gets priority.
We sacrifice, alter, throw away, and generally futz with our desires to make room for a love.

Plus, Aenea taught that love is the most basic force in the universe, and when fully versed in its art, one can follow her footsteps, and hear the language of the living and the dead, hear the music of the spheres, and take that first step.

falling is easier than climbing up onto.

go with gravity.

Dearest SmartHartFart,

Once again, in my moment of noggin scratchingness, i find myself gravitating to this haven of wisdom.

Your advice and counsel, along with your vast knowledge of all, i highly respect.

Therefore, i do beseech you to come to my aid once again.

For i have a question that has boggled for eons.

Why are breasts not detachable?

I ask this not just because I had to shell out $98 for a new bra yesterday, not because I endured a rather embarassing moment of dinner parter's errant fork boob pokage .. no I lie..those are exactly the reasons I ask.

Please. Help me see the light.

*giggles*

The most I have ever paid for a bra was 8.95. I never dared to try on the 98 dollar one. I am afraid I wouldn't be able to take it off
