Devin waited in the dining room patiently while the rest of the estate staff slowly filtered in. It had been 6 months since the previous owners of the estate abruptly left, leaving them to care for the grounds while it was put on the market. Though many of them thought they knew the reason for the abrupt departure it was never discussed openly. Things of that nature never were. In the months leading up to their departure the lady of the house had systematically replaced the staff that had cared for the estate for decades with younger men from the nearby town. The sudden purge after such a long period of continuity had tongues around the small community wagging and only seemed to add to the lore of their sudden departure.
"I've just been informed that there is a new owner of the estate." he said when the rest of the staff had finally arrived. "I don't have any details of the new owners but I'm told they'll be arriving in the morning. The terms of the sale were that we were to be kept on but no positions are guaranteed past the transition so if you value your job here you may be well served to make a good impression." he started out as he paced the floor of the dining room.
Michael listened attentively from his seat at the dining room table. He was the last to have replaced his predicessor before the previous owners exit which left him feeling his position was in a rather precarious state. Throughout their absence he'd worked tirelessly to maintain the grounds of the estate and the dark tan on his muscled shoulders told of the hours he'd spent at his work. Still in his mid 20s the position came just in time to prevent him from moving to the nearby city to seek employment. Thankful to be close to his family and longtime girlfriend he was keen to make the most of the opportunity.
Though the rest of the staff seemed on edge with worry about their longterm prospects, Marco had no such worries. As a recent graduate of one of Italy's most presigous culinary acadamies he was brought to the estate on a 2 year contract. The terms of the contract secured his position as the house chef for the duration regardless of the ownership transition. Having such a guarantee was a luxury most of his fellow gradautes enjoyed as a result of their top notch training. Even though there were few to cook for in the time since the family had departed he kept himself busy experimenting with new flavors and honing his craft in anticipation for the next owner and whatever laid beyond his tenure at the estate.
Devin paused for a moment, running his fingers nervously through the dark wavy hair that framed the chiseled features of his face. "Let's put on the final touches before tomorrow and make sure we're prepared for their arrival." he said finally before dismissing the staff to tend to things.
