Artistic Passions

Should i post a sermon?

(Just kidding! Stop wincing!)

This religious nerd would actually be interested in that

Not that I'm religious. Just am rather nerdy about religion, I especially like reading people with interesting takes on christianity.

From what I've read of your posts, that means you ;)

Don't get a big head lol.

I don't know because I know nothing of your opinions on religion :)

The first three threads I started on this forum were basically me telling how I put bdsm in the context of fundamental christianity.

If you're a relgiious nut, you should talk to me :p, I enjoy studying religions and putting things in the content of my own fundamental beliefs.

I actually went to college and have a degree in commercial arts and photography, but...I am extremely anal about my art, and while I can enjoy doing something for myself, when I start working at others' demands...I stop enjoying it. I lose my confidence and I end up hating every minute of it. I just don't want to ruin a good thing, you know? Taking a hobby and turning it into a profession may seem like the perfect job, but like any job when you HAVE to do it, it stops being "fun" and starts being "work". Life is too short to turn everything into "work", heh. So.....I just do it for me, at my own whim. It kind of is my little secret though...most people that know me in real life comment on the artwork around the house but never really look at the signature...and I never say anything. My little secret *shrugs*.

For some reason though, in the past 5 years or so I've lost my confidence. I'm convinced I lost my talent and cannot draw or paint the way I used to, and so I've stopped trying. It's rather frustrating because I know it's ridiculous...talent doesn't come and go. It IMPROVES, but I can't imagine it just "stopping". So I really don't understand why I'm thinking like I am. I have incentive though...one of the subs in my family lost her dog a few years ago and I would love to draw him for her for a christmas gift...I know she would be floored by it, so I really want to get off my ass and pick up a pencil again.

BTW...love your drawings as well, is giving me incentive to want to draw the female figure.

Thanks. I can understand what you say about doing it for money spoiling the joy. I think for me the only way I could do it is to do it at my leisure and then if people want to buy something and I want to sell it, fine....has worked in the past with my photography and was only when I began taking on photographic assignments that I found it creating issues for me.

As to the drought you are going through, so to speak, I guess I am partially in the same place. I find a million reasons to not settle down and do more drawings at the moment, though I want to. I do know that for me in the past, my ability to create something on paper is totally tied to my mental attitudes, comfort zone, and timing. I have picked up pencil and paper and found it impossible to draw even the most simplistic of things and yet a day or so later when I feel more in tune, I can put out something incredible in an hour or 2. I think much of it is a confidence thing, though perhaps not just related to the ability to create, but symptomatic of other things lurking in the subconscious. Even when I do begin and it is a good day, I have to push myself to even begin and I go though hell mentally and emotionally until I am finished.

LOL, I love drawing the female form. I have done a couple of men, though they just do not capture my mood as much as women do overall. I have been known to draw page after page of breasts or female butts. :p

Cool sounds interesting we'll have to talk sometime :) I don't particularly like huge arguments about it though, so if it gets too heated I usually back quietly out of the thread. Its an area in which due to past experiences I'm quite vulnerable and and I hate it if anyone tries to convert me (believe me when I say I've had enough of that for one lifetime) I more just like to listen to other people's honest accounts of what they believe and chew on it for a while.

LOL, yes I am a lucky woman and he is yummy in so many ways. :) I love flamenco music though I am no expert, just know when I hear something I love. Now if we ever get to go to Spain and Portugal as we have been planning to do for awhile, I hope to pick up some good CD's..perhaps you can steer me in the right direction of what I should look for!!. :D

Catalina :rose:

Of course Catalina ! If you like I'll be very glad to share my ( little) knowledge about flamenco music and its styles .

Feel free to ask me in every moment .

Although I'm sure when you'll get to Andalucia with such a good guidance as Francisco you won't need to look for directions about the music cause , being you fond of it , the flamenco music surely will find you .

That is the magic of this music , one doesn't choose it , its flamenco which chooses people who love it :) :rose:

I was born In Cadiz and have lived in Sevilla and Jerez de la Frontera, although Jerez was when I was just a kid. The Feria is great, did you take the pilgrimage to it? You should do it once in your lifetime it is an unique experience which you will never forget.

I do like Flamenco but I do like the Sevillanas more, I remember going to the clubs in Sevilla and dancing a Sevillana or two.

We are going this year to take a trip to Spain and Portugal and we are going to spend of course some time in Sevilla dancing the Sevillanas and drinking some Sangria.

Francisco.

Cadiz is a wonderful town and I loved its very special silver light , really in there the sky has a different shade of blue and Sevilla ..... Sevilla is just magic , I consider it my second home , the place of the heart . :rose:

Unfortunately I haven't been to the pilgrimage of Rocio yet but it's on my wishes list .

And I like to dance sevillana as well , when I went to the Feria in Sanlucar we spent a whole week just drinking and dancing around wearing the wonderful Feria dresses which our delightful Spanish friends got us , because - as they said - when a girl goes a la feria de Sanlucar she must have a special dress for dancing sevillanas all night and strutting about in it teasing hombres :D

It's so great to see so many artists here! I'm an artist as well....Draw/paint only from life though.....figures and landscapes mostly (on location only--not from photos). These two are really short poses from the last two model sessions, so they are just "sketches" as opposed to more "finished" works.

The first, 18x24", oil sketch on canvas, 20 minute pose
The second, 24x36", charcoal and pastel sketch on my fave crinkly brown craft paper, 45 minute pose

Many thanks to all of you who shared your work here!

Serijules, methinks you are a Rockwell fan! lol I completely agree about commission work---Ugh! Hate doing it. How do you upload your images directly without the attachment feature? Is there an uploader stashed somewhere that I haven't found yet? lol...

I'm not really a fan in the sense that he is someone who's work I would choose first and foremost to hang around my house, but my little secret is that I LOVE "copying" his style, as bad as that is LOL....it's just so much fun to get all the details and colours down, and the subject matter is extremely simple as far as drawing goes, so I don't have to spend much time fooling around with the image and can "play with paints" more, heh.

As for putting images directly in a post....click on the box that looks like the mountains and a sun....then paste the URL to the image in there.

Thanks, Serijules! I'll try that next time. :)

I really like your work.

Did you know that Rockwell projected the images onto the painting surface and just traced them? Boy oh boy, did that ever take its toll on my image of him when I found that out! But like you, I love his style.

Holy shit, really?? wow...damn, I worked harder than he did LOL

Yeah, exactly. :( I have it on good authority---from somebody who went to study with Rockwell and was Horrified to learn that!

Perhaps someone will humor me with a quick and dirty sketch.

There is something I've wanted to put onto paper for a while, but I can't draw for shit.

The second one is amazing.

So very real, my stomach looks just like that from the side.

How brave of your model to sit for you.

Thank you for sharing

Shy Slave, thank you so much! She is a great model---one of our best. She holds her poses very well and since she's an artist as well, she always thinks in terms of the negative space and how a pose will fit on the page compositionally. She has a great body for figure artists too. The studio art models always get an enormous amount of respect and appreciation from the artists. They are true professionals who know how to do their job, which is not easy. Aside from being nude, just sitting/lying/standing perfectly still for 20 minutes at a stretch is difficult.

I don't argue. I mean, I'm a firm believer that I'm right, and everyone else is wrong, I just also believe that people, when they see my kindness and generosity, will understand that my way has led me to a better life, and will inquire about it.
