Aroused whilst you write?

During a conversation about what we'd written or read recently, my wife asked if I got turned on whilst writing. Made me curious as to what other's answers might be, as ours diverged considerably.

For her; Yeah, to the point she twitches and jumps quite obviously, and has to make sure she's either alone, or only with me in order to avoid awkward questions.

For me; Nope. Not even slightly whilst I'm writing; reading back a while later, a few weeks or so after the fact (long enough to forget what I'd written exactly), yes - but in the process of writing, no, nothing. I'm far too busy focusing on the task at hand to be in the mood..

So, do YOU get aroused whilst you're writing?

Oh, for sure. All the best bits of my stories were written one-handed.

I've written things that have been very erotic (and arousing to write) that have left me feeling dirty to think about or re-read afterwards.

While attending college in Southern California, I serviced office equipment. The campus' proximity to Hollywood and the San Fernando Valley sometimes had me running service calls at movie studios and locations where filming was underway, some of which included pornographic films.

I typically wasn't allowed onto the actual sets, but I would get a chance to chat with the crew members and I remember how nonchalant they were about all viewing all of the sex scenes, directing actions, applying makeup, holding boom mics, etc. They all claimed that they were too focused on their own tasks to pay much attention to the sex scenes, but they all got turned on by watching the "daily's" or viewing the completed film.

While writing, I am too focused on my task to be aroused by the sex scenes. Now, when editing and later, that is a different story.

For me it depends.
Sometimes at night when I'm alone.
I bring the cookie jar in and place it beside me.
If I have just baked fresh chocolate chip cookies, I am often driven crazy by the aroma of the cookies.
I write faster and faster trying to finish so I can finally have a cookie....
Oh the sheer luxurious delight. Chapter finished, a still warm chocolate chip cookie.
Heaven must be like that.

Mmm - now I'm thinking about cookies...

I was surprised by how un-erotic I find writing porn. Sometimes I get excited when an idea comes to me, but the actual process of writing? Nothing. Even reading it afterward is..****, sometimes, if I think I've been clever, but never arousing. I think by then I've sweated over each sentence enough that I don't react to the scenario at all.

I used to worry I was ruining all of my fantasies by writing them out, but (1) turns out I have a lot of fantasies and (2) I can still enjoy roughly the same story as long as I didn't have to write it. Reminds me a little of how excited professional cooks get when anyone cooks for them, even if it's absolute garbage compared to what they crank out day in and day out.

My problem is I write scenarios rather than porn?
I envisage the scene that the participants are in.
If it turns me on at 3 in the morning. I will try and write it at 10 in the morning.

Yes and no. Sometimes a sex scene just flows, maybe I’m channeling some remembered experience. Then I certainly get caught up in the moment and have been known to have to take a short break.

But sometimes, in a plot-heavy longer work, I get more caught up in the story. Then I sometimes have [sex scene here] placeholders. I might still get excited when I come back to write the missing bit. But equally it can feel a bit more dispassionate / technical to be filling in the gaps.

Almost never during the actual writing. For one, my brain is in a different mode. Yeah, the characters are "alive" in my head, but I seem to keep some psychic distance between them and myself, or something. When it does happen, I find that it interferes with the writing.

Often before, when my right brain is playing with the character dynamics and what I'm going to be writing. Sometimes after. Often when re-reading an old story.

Yes. Even the more scene-setting details, the non-sexual character interactions. I know where it's going, and what I'm attempting to do is to generate some of the sexual tension that will pay off later. And I find that process very arousing.

I’m getting back into writing after a long hiatus, and am currently collaborating with a very talented partner. Our extended back and forth narrative is definitely arousing. I enjoy the cerebral part of the process, and her amazing talent, every bit as much as the sensuality of our scenes.

Interesting thread. I'm not aroused when I'm actually putting pen to paper, but I definitely am as I create the fantasy that will be recorded in my story. And it's a test of whether the wording of a phrase is the one to use or not as I mentally fine tune the story. I had expected most authors of erotica to have this experience, but I've learned that many (most in AH) place a lot of importance on things like plot and character. Their stories have a lot of content that is not particularly erotic, so wouldn't cause arousal... I wouldn't think. Correct me if I'm wrong, anyone.

Yes, mostly because a lot of my stories are based off my fantasies, some are fantasies others share with me and I've helped turn them into stories.
But the Daddy BG ones are my fave I wrote, and I am very aroused as I'm writing them😈💜

That's the sort of plot/character stuff that's OK for me in what I call simple erotica. A lot of @ElectricBlue's stories are like that. (I keep using him as an example because he's such a good writer... an example of how good writing can raise a "stroker" out of that disparaging category). I know I'm a smidgen off topic here, but you describe the phenomenon that I'm interested in so well!
