Just curious, how many of you are completely truthful when you post on Lit? Do you tend to reply with what you think the thread wants to hear or do you always state your beliefs?

I answer with my beliefs. Hence the reason my responses aren't always the most popular.

I think you're going to have a problem with this poll though. Someone can always answer honestly, posting their beliefs and not what they think will be popular on the particular thread. They can also be a 40 year old white guy posting as a young black female at the same time. Truthful answers not withstanding, I'd consider that person to be a liar.

I agree Cheyenne. That's why I added the option "None of your damn business". Remember, you can vote anonomously.

i always tell the truth , i always speak my mind and i always post under my own name
i dont hide my opinions from people, it is not my problem that people cant always deal with that

Yes!!!!

That is what is so wonderful about posting on this board. You can say exactly how you feel or think. I am unable to express or even have these views in real life. It is therapeutic. Being completely anonymous makes it so much easier to post without fear of someone judging you.

True. But which info are you trying to get from the poll? If they are honest in everything (including who/what they are) or just whether their opinions/posts are honest?

What was it that Grandpa used to say "a dog's tail is never so long that it doesn't catch up to him?"

I learned a long time ago that lying usually is found out. Then you have to lie to covet the lie...

I would rather not post at all than lie.

I tell it the way I see it, which is as honest as anyone can be. Some people don't like me because of the way I post. Some people do. I don't lie about my real life either, I just withhold information because it's not everyone's business.

You are who you are and it comes through no matter what you say.

I am looking for the reality in opinions/posts. I have observed that some members post opposing opinions to the same question. It appears that these individuals are either changing their mind (which of course is everyone's right) or they are responding as they believe the originator wants them to.

I tell the thruth!

I am honest and I believe in honesty!
If I am asked a question that I can't or don't wish to answer, then I honestly decline, with a reason!

I can't lie, because I am not clever enough to remember what I lied about! I will always give myself away! Therefore, I stay honest and expect the same!

I really can't see the gain in lying!
No brain, no gain = be honest!

The poll is flawed in the way you worded your options, more than it is "invalid."

To answer you underlying question, I, among others, will sometimes argue both sides of an issue because we're arguing from the middle against both ends.

Sometimes, a thread needs a bit of support from a "devil's advocate" to even out the debate and keep it from becomming a mud slinging match instead of a debate.

Finally, Sarcasm doesn't often come through in written form unless the author is VERY good at writing sarcasm. Even then, gentle sarcasm is hard to detect without hearing the tone of voice. I suspect many of the posts that raised this question for you were intended as sarcasm.

I voted yes

Although my user name is NOT the same in the "offline world", my opinions and ideas that I post are shared with my off-screen persona as well. I found many serious threads among the frivolous, so I'm glad I didn't begin posting when I initially logged my way onto Lit in the chat area. I wasn't quite "myself" when I started out, but even in chat, I discovered it was more rewarding to be myself and chat from my heart despite what name I use.:)

Exactly. It's more fulfilling to be true to oneself, to never betray the 'YOU' inside you. And it's more than just telling the truth, it's about not 'putting on airs' or anything (which I haven't really encountered here at lit, wonderful place *G*).
I also type exactly as I speak, and think... just not in the same sheer quantity, lol.

Ah, now THAT is a different question. I guess it would depend on the seriousness of the topic. If you found someone argues for abortion in one thread and against it in another, I'd wonder about that person. If it was a silly kind of thing though (like what is your favorite music to have sex to) where a member gave different answers in different threads, it may not matter as much. Moods change, and so do answers.

Of course, beliefs about serious kinds of topics can change, too. Someone here posted once that they changed their mind on the death penalty after reading the many threads on the topic. It can happen, although it is probably not common. Also, I think KM has said that sometimes she takes the less popular view on a topic just to be able to argue a point. It isn't necessarily her true opinion that she is arguing for, she is just stretching her brain muscle to keep a discussion going. It wouldn't surprise me to see her argue opposite points of view in different threads. That isn't lying, as she doesn't claim to necessarily believe/agree with what she is posting.

Edit: Weird Harold said it better, as usual. :) That's what I meant though. Taking a position for the sake of furthering the discussion, not necessarily because it is exactly what you believe.

Always honest

My responses are always honest and generally well thought out. I will admit that sometimes they may not make the greatest of sense because many times I get caught up in circular logic. All things are interelated in my mind. You could call it karma or any name that you choose but in most cases if you stop and think about things (I think too much at times) you can see where a decision/statement you make today can have an effect down the line.

If any of my post get confusing like this let me know and I will edit or amend and correct the problem with my screwy way of thinking.

Mostly I am.

I have my views about alot of things...<very liberal here> so i just dont post where I dont agree with the person who posted it.

However, there are alot of flirty things that get said/posted on the boards. I am very guilty of doing that, but that doesnt mean I am going to follow up on many of them. Flirt back, ignore,I dont care, but know that its all in fun and no harm is meant.

I always speak my mind what little there is left of it anyway

Am I truthful?

Damn skippy.. My posts are always truthful.. I jot down what's on my mind, what my beliefs are on certain situations, etc. Ya don't get much mo' truth 'den 'dat..
