"If you're a white person who says they're engaged in dismantling white supremacy but you're forming a white family [and] reproducing white children that 'you want the best for' — how is that helping [and] not part of the problem?" —City University of New York professor Jessie Daniels

As an old white guy, I think Jessie Daniels is a stupid asshole. And God help the poor suckers stuck in his sociology classes.

'Wanting the best for your kids' obviously is a universal ... but if you're working from a position of privilege, it often can involved replicating the structure that gives you the privilege in the first instance.

Case in point - I've watched friends send their white kids to a further away school, because if they went to the closer school they'd be 'in a minority' (meaning white kids made up a smaller percentage of the student body than all the other ethnicities combined - not technically a minority, but let's go with it for argument's sake) because apparently research shows that kids in the minority in a school don't do so well.
Personally, I think that if you're growing up in a country where you're the majority in pretty much every context, it's a good thing to be in a minority for a change ... but of course, they had the option of sending their kid to the 'better' school, and consequently that kid will probably never know what it's like to not be part of a privileged majority.

Your case in point made me chuckle. Lets just say that your friends were black and wanted to send their kids the same "further away" school that was "better" then the local one but had a majority of white kids. Does that mean they would not do so well because they were in the minority?

Apparently so - that's the logic of the argument that was being made.

What if he said having black children was the problem?

Good grief ... he didn't say 'reproducing white children' was the problem ... he effectively said 'reproducing white children and then perpetuating, through them, a system that reproduces white privilege' is the problem. Even without the relevant context, I can work that out.

If not wanting to live in the ghetto means that Im part of the problem. Then I guess I'm part of the problem.

It's a problem if you live in the ghetto but ship your kids elsewhere so they don't have to go to the 'bad' school around the corner.

These folks of his ‘mindset’ are the ones who think ‘existing while white’ is a crime. I call it by what it is, liberal bigotry.

Any parent that doesn't do everything within their means to advance the education, personal growth and happiness of their offspring is not a good parent.

Let me count the ways...

Seems to me the REAL racists are the ones who assume that, unless the deck is stacked to favor a black child, they have no chance of succeeding. It doesn’t get any more racist than that, that belief liberals quietly hold sacred that blacks are inherently less capable than whites. It’s the basic underpinning of ‘Affirmative Action’, and it’s BULLSHIT. Individuals can and do succeed from every race of man, some will be brilliant while others will struggle to feed themselves, but in the end, it all comes down to self motivation. In America, anyone can succeed, but first they have to get liberalism to stop making excuses for perceived racial inequality. DNA isn’t the problem, liberal excuses and ‘Projects’ are the problem.

Hey, coach dweeb, do me a favor?

Next time you're in the air in your Cessna, do a hard power stall at 50ft.

Kthxbai.

I would agree ... I just happen to think that those things aren't only measured by test scores. I have the luxury of knowing my kid will be OK regardless - in that situation, I'd rather he got lower test scores and developed a bit of empathy for others less fortunate than himself, and the ability to get on with people from backgrounds other than his own.

... and now it's an old white guy (who doesn't like discussing politics) explaining what 'real racism' is.

Are you suggesting that the only way your son can learn empathy is to put him is a less then ideal situation so he can see how the "less fortunate" live?

Sounds like you’re just working yourself crazy to unburden yourself of your ‘white man’s burden’, Ms Kipling. You do what you can now, for yo’ po’ lol unfortunate darkies. With your superiority of them in this world, I’m sure they’ll jus’ be fine!
