I appreciated the question. I needed to explore the answer, if only for myself.

I really only started it because I felt I wasn't connecting with people and I was trying to understand why.
I've learned a lot this evening. I was totally frightened that nobody would answer
and abner came along and saved my bacon.
A big lesson I'm learning is that I have always found it hard to take compliments
and in the same way, I have found it hard to give them out too.
I beginning to realise that its fantastic to compliment people
thank you all for being great people.

Another way I have always found, to connect to others is to try and post in more threads. Even if they are threads that normally don't apply to you. There will always been someone that has posted in a thread that you'll notice and that's when you take it further--maybe keep chatting in that thread or moving to another.

This is a very good thread topic. I've connected with quite a few people on Lit. Some of them have become close friends who I talk with on the phone but have never met. And some I have met offline, in person, and we've become very close friends. Some I just post and flirt with, and there's talk of meeting but I'm not sure it'll ever happen.

In any case... I think that sometimes we make the mistake of not seeing the people we chat with on here as real people. I mean, there are people on here (not just Lit, I'm talking online in general) who will think nothing of hurting you, and go their merry way. They forget that the person on the other side of the monitor is a very real person, with very real feelings and emotions and a heart that can hurt.
