Are there still sweeps?

I track the voting on my stories. I mean, like, not every 10 mins, but... well, maybe when one first comes out, but... well...

Anyway.

A couple weeks' back, one of my series received 1-bombs across every entry. One would think that if part 1 was hated so much, they wouldn't keep reading through to part 8, but hey. Okay.

It made me wonder if the sweeps were still happening, and if anyone knew how often they took place. I thought they were weekly, but if they are they haven't picked up on this. The votes made very little difference to the overall scores, so c'est la vie, but I was just curious.

I assume they do, as I have noticed the total number of votes on some of mine drop periodically. Presumably that is from rejecting certain suspicious activity, since I think users can only change their votes, not rescind them (but I'm pretty new to being more than a lurker so I could be wrong). I suppose there's a slight chance that a registered user became mortally offended at something you said in the latest chapter and went back to retroactively condemn your entire body of work, which might well elude a sweep of IPs or whatever they do.

Well that could be true... in the last chapter the characters did share a bath. We know how some of the 1-bombers feel about baths.

I haven't been noticing any sweeps except for a couple of times during Lit-sponsored contests.

You can request a sweep on your stories manually, by reporting one of your stories and requesting a sweep. They'll scan all your stories.
I've stopped bothering as they never seem to make any difference.

Besides events, they generally run about once a month.
I'm afraid I haven't been seeing that in my story file--and I submit at least one story a week. I don't see any rating adjustment now outside of a Lit-sponsored contest.

I'm not sure that's the case, at least not any more. My last submission was getting straight 5s for the first few days, then got 1-bombed a few times. I sent in a report but the score only started to rise again with a significant number of new votes over the next week or so. Maybe the increase in story submissions and more traffic generally has made it too much trouble to monitor.

Ditto my experience.

And yes, yes, I know a '1-vote is a valid vote too', blah blah.

Yeah, me neither. I think they used to be more frequent. Oh well, was just a thought.
They used to sweep just before they announced the monthly contest winners, but seeing that's back to being over a year behind(again) that sweep doesn't happen anymore.

I think that's what has made the difference. As AlohaDave pointed out, you could pretty much count on at least one a month, usually just before the cut off on the monthlies.

I lost votes on a couple of my stories today. It happens now and then and it's anything but dramatic. I think of it as housekeeping.

Can't people change or remove their votes now? That's going to be yet another thing to factor in.

How do I request a sweep? I've been noticing a downward trend on some of my stories, that seems steeper than usual, and one of the new ones looks to have gotten bombed.

I am continuously amazed how many things on this website rely on manual labor. It’s a small miracle that, with the current volume of users, anything works at all!
Amen! But don't expect reporting suspicious votes to do anything

Some of the things you might like to happen such as different categories and a better rating system are probably after-thoughts by the site admins. They probably kludged together a routine to "scrape" 1s from the ratings with some semblance of a logical algorithm, merely to appease those authors complaining.

But we don't pay anything for their time and efforts.

EDIT: I haven't seen a "sweep" of the 1-bombs on my stories for months, at least not like I used to see after my stories came off the New lists. My latest story started the first hour with five 1s and a 2 rating for 1.17, and it just grew from there without any sudden downward drop in the vote numbers. But I don't care, and I'm about to click "Publish" on my next story.
