are 'resistance to change and justification of inequality'

defining aspects of conservative ideology?

If you wanted to equate Liberal values with communism then I guess that is a fair statement.

But at the point you are just comparing the fringe idiots of both sides.....

Conservatives believe in personal responsibility, limited government, free markets, individual liberty, traditional American values and a strong national defense. They believe the role of government should be to provide people the freedom necessary to pursue their own goals. Conservative policies generally emphasize empowerment of the individual to solve problems.

I don't think "resistance to change" works. They're on the side of revolution if need be, maybe with the goal of restoring some conveniently blurry former golden age.

Conservatives fixate on individual behavior and cultural "standards" as a universal cure-all for perceived social problems.

According to conservative doctrine, there is no problem so big that cannot be resolved with either a tax cut for the rich or a stern lecture to the poor.

How can Liberals be open to change when they want four more years of a failed president?

Your fallacious question presumes that President Obama's first term in office has been a "failure".

I reject that silly notion.

defining aspects of conservative ideology?

The most defining aspect, at least in the United States in 2012, is "hatred of people unlike themselves."

Just read this board every day. The one thing that unites them is their resentments.

so you would say that 'rigid, fearful and intolerant' were common attributes?

You may have not got what you wanted, but the replies go far in explaining the typical liberal mentality and intelligence, of this board at least.....

i don't think either side look particularly good, on this board at least.

but i read some descriptions, in new scientist of all places, and wondered how people felt they did or did not fit.

new scientist seems quite politically biased. interesting, intelligent, informative but... i'm a little uncomfortable with the politics, which i'm not sure have a place in what should be a scientific publication. when did they start taking sides?!

The first part is.

The second part isn't really, except for the reactionary asshats who erroneously call themselves conservatives today.

The squeaky wheel makes the most noise...

Liberals believe in government action to achieve equal opportunity and equality for all. It is the duty of the government to alleviate social ills and to protect civil liberties and individual and human rights. Believe the role of the government should be to guarantee that no one is in need. Liberal policies generally emphasize the need for the government to solve problems.

anything else is just idiots being idiots.....

let me just say, ALL generalizations are completely ignorant.

people are seldom all one way, or all another. not all liberals are the same, not all conservatives feel and think alike.

this seems completely obvious and self-evident, and yet generalizations persist here almost as much as uggs trolls :(

NS has changed over the last few years. I used to buy it regularly, now it's an every now and again purchase.
