Are animated banners allowed?

I did a few searches on this and am coming up with nothing.

Are animated (.gif) banners allowed in signatures?

I tried to add one and the sig just shows up blank...

I think you have to use an image hosting site for the animated GIF file. I don't think you're allowed to use an ad banner though.

You're correct. Unobtrusive (read: not too flashy or annoying), non-commercial things are allowed, and they must be hosted online to show up. There are detailed instructions and a re-posting of the rules in the FAQs Before Posting sticky thread at the top of the main How To page.

Keep in mind that certain flashing animations can also cause problems for people with epilepsy, etc., which is why it's usually frowned upon.
