Does Pure want the job?

I'd be happy to put my two cents in to Laurel on Pure's behalf if he indeed wants the responsibility.
Yep. He's willing to do the dirty deed.

People who keep themselves far from dirty deeds have no business being on this site.

Deeds-wise, dirty is as dirty does (and before you ask, I've got no idea what that means). However, I do know it'd be nice if the site had an active, involved moderator.

Amen to that.

I think I'll take a bath before going to sleep. LOL

I merely mailed Laurel to please appoint another moderator and suggested that could be Pure.

But that is up to her. Pure can always say no and the board needs a moderator, I think.

:D

I just emailed Laurel also. Hopefully she doesn't ignore the board like KillerMuffin has and considers the request.

I've got my fingers crossed, LE.

I've asked Carson to be the next person 'up'.

Moderatorship issues at Lit., has always seemed somewhat mysterious to me, including work expected.

Rumple and I and helpful others like Tulip and Mlyons--without real POWER-- keep things on track, I hope.

I'm going to jump in here, and (hopefully) give some constructive feedback on other's stories.

When there's an opening for a discussion, please let me know.

Hi Cloudy,
If you mean an opening to post one of your stories for critiquing, Aug is very UNbusy, and largely open.

Going ahead with this is understood to be going hand in hand with your participation, as you have offered.

best,
J.

When there's time, Pure, the story I'd like to have reviewed is The Septimus Child.

It's done reasonably well, but I felt I could have done more, maybe, with it. It's part of the Superstitions chain story, and we had to take a superstition and incorporate it into an erotic story.

I've critiqued Carsonshepherd's story, and will gladly offer my opinion on any others as they go up.

Thanks!

OK, Cloudy, this Sun, post the story or its url in its own thread, along with questions; the thread labeled like the other threads.

Great to have you on board.

Thanks, will do.

Aaron,
Just look at the threads labeled "Grassroots Discussion". they are dated. Each thread contains a story or its url, AND feedback.

As soon as I see you participating, you'll be put in the queue for later in the month.

I am adding Suggestibile Suzie (approximately 1,700 words at the moment) to your Story Cue.

Someone give me a kick when it's time to nail it up on the barn door.

Meanwhile, I am intending to critique.

So far, the stories I found had already been critiqued by others.

My contribution would have been:

"I agree with A about this, B about that, and C about the other."

Hardly worth killing the necessary electrons.

Aw, VB, you can kill our electrons anytime. :)

What you might want to do is give a "big picture" type critique. Did you like the story; why or why not? What was weak, strong? By forcing you to analyze the story and make those types of decision, critiques can do the person writing them almost as much good as the person receiving them.

It seems like the order tentatively is Varian, Aaron, and Virtual. Varian to be this Sun Aug 22. This is conditional on Aaron and Virtual contributing something in the meantime.

As to Virtual's statement regarding not posting:

My contribution would have been:

"I agree with A about this, B about that, and C about the other."

Hardly worth killing the necessary electrons.

One way some of us avoid that feeling--which we all have, once a few critiques are posted-- is NOT to read other critics of the stories we're reacting to. That way it's almost impossible to duplicate in a boring way.

In any case, "I agree with A about x" *followed by reasons* is valuable to a writer, sometimes. If only A and B post, and A loves a story, and B hates it, the writer has no resolution. As others join in--let's say five agree with A-- that gives the writer a sample and an idea of proportions who have certain opinions.

Pure, is it possiable that we go back to the way that you (the real moderator) start the thread for each new story? This will cause less confusion on what is next in line to be reviewed since some writers pop in this forum thinking this is the same as the feedback forum.

I do see the problem, Lying. As you know, no one around here has 'moderator' powers or tools like deleting threads, moving them etc.

I'm simply the temporary director of traffic, until (if and when) Laurel finishes with weightier matters and decides to do something to help, here.

You suggestion is a good one. Let me think on it a day or so.

Just putting in a word for a spot in the queue for the most recent draft of "From the Hesperus. I'm looking to post for grassroots discussion. Pure, as you know, I have PM'd you. Cheers -

Shanglan

(Have critiqued Varian, Carson, and some random guy before I realized that I was encouraging queue-jumpers.)

As of now, it looks like mab is for this sun (8-29), and black sh., for the next.

I have yet to see any input from Aaron Dazer and a couple others, so they are 'bumped' further down the calender if they start showing up.

Since Doc's about to be published, (see Lou's thread: Contacted by a Publisher) does that mean we can be extra cruel and nasty to him?

Just wondering.

Rumple Foreskin

we may be merciless, but we must remind ourselves it's for the sake of art. nothing personal.
