ARCHIVAL DISCUSSION to 11-14-08

That would be very convenient for me.
I'll have that pile of exams graded by next week. LOL
I have to.

:D

Pure,

Can I make a request?

When posting the stories can you number them, date them, or something so they can be identified?

I have been watching all week for the new story, which was never posted. Then tonight I think I have left out rumple some how as it magically appears.

Only to realize after hours of shredding his work to pieces, this is an old post. A lot of good that did.

Any ways a simple request.

Any one ever hear from KM? What going on 6 months now? Is she OK? Still alive? Any one know anything other than the brief pass through a few months ago?

Hi, Seven,

If you look at the date of the first posting, it's a clue!. But maybe the thread title as well could reflect a date.

I have no word about Killer. I presume she's doing school work, and last I looked, was not posting around here (Lit.) even to chat.

Black Tulip is up.! She will post questions in her thread soon.

OK, after heavy thought and a bit of prodding, and with knowing that I've never been happy with the first chapter of my story... I'll put it up for debate. I know I'm going to rewrite it, so the input will actually give me things to think about.

Do I just put the link here and wait for it to go up? Instruct me ;) I like to be told what to do. (There would be much giggling from everyone who knows me at this point)

Psychocat.
First you must tell us what you are wearing.

Further instructions will follow.

J.

EVERYONE:
I'm inclined to let Black T run a further week, which would mean that the next story, possibly by psycho, if she can pass the gauntlet, would be July 4, some kind of national holiday in the US, I'm told.

A big teal tshirt and this --> :D

Um... or I could make something up if that would help. But really the tshirt is usually all I wear.

psychocat,

welcome. please introduce yourself. indicate what types of depraved material you produce and consume. oh, I mean *artistic, literary* depraved material, of course.

this is a circle which 'swaps' critiques of works already posted or not quite ready.

you would be agreeing to give two critiques as part of the package of receiving one. and a critique need not be more than a hundred fifty words.

generally people are friendly, and mention the good and the problematic points of a story.

of course, no critic speaks for God or the ages or even Penthouse magazine or Black Cat Press, so you take wha you find useful.

There are some suggestions for what to say, if you want them, at the beginning of the thread (by Killer) and about a month ago (by me; dated 6-01, on page 3; likewise see 4-26 FAQ on that page),

It looks like this is summer blahs, so your story could go 'up' in its thread in another week.

Ahh, well, artistically... *smirks* I tend to read and produce more erotic horror than anything else. In sharp contrast to that, I also really enjoy humor/satire. I've been reading here and there on Incest, because one of my stories does sort of deal with that although not in a sexy way. What I'll be asking you all to look at would be erotic horror.

I've given a couple of critiques: Technoslut, drlust and Wyldekarde, if that's ok? I was told I'd need to give in order to get and I also wanted to see how the critiques went before throwing my baby into the deep end ;)

I'm fairly new to writing, at least like this. I did go through the school of journalism and I'm trying very hard to get out of the Who What Where When Why sort of pattern that I tend to write in because of that. And I'm having to relearn a bit about sentence variety, etc.

I do like my story, though, which is why I want to make it better.

So... do I pass? :)

:catroar:

Sweetheart, you do by me.
But then, who the heck am I?

:D

Reading your application form shows me up as terribly undereducated. LOL

Undereducated? How? Writing is a form of self-expression and I don't think you must be educated to express yourself. Sometimes education inhibits rather than helps self-expression. I'm having to fight it in order to tell a story, so there you go. :)

I mean, honestly, the mechanics of writing: grammar and spelling, are pretty easy things to fix. And that's all school can really teach you. They can't teach you how to be creative. They can give you tools of different ways to look at things, and even force you to practice your writing. But ultimately, I think talking to people here, having your work reviewed and reviewing other people's work is probably some of the best education you can get.

But that's just my opinion :)

PCB,

Hey isn't that Angel Dust?

I was only joking. I am merely jealous for you guys having the opportunity to get courses in creative writing. That's all.

No such thing in my language, well not in my day. *old woman cackling*

I maintain that this *is* a course in creative writing :) Only I can attend this course for free and in nothing but a smile. Which is a big bonus ;)

I agree with this completely.

I agree, this is a sort of course, of the best kind.** It's self organizing; there is no central authoritative person in the topic area. My own role, for instance, is pretty much administrative, and coordinating of the timing of postings and critiques. I will try to 'moderate' to the extent of curbing unduly negative or 'flaming' remarks (that means discouraging them, not removing).

This lack of authority is a slight difference from Killer, in some ways, though she did not dictate standards: she was the author of several guides to things like punctuation and good writing, and possessed a modicum of 'authority.'

Self organizing efforts sometimes are quite successful; that is, measured by the persons' getting something they want. That 'getting' in turn, is --as is mostly the case in life-- pretty much dependent on 'giving' (participating, commenting).

Psycho will be 'up' this Sunday, July 4. I trust she'll give a url here or in PM to me.

J.

**Those who attend, wearing smiles only, are most welcome!

Mmm I can't wait to be "up" ;)Chapter 1, The Ends

There's my link in case anyone is so inclined to read it now or wants to read further ahead. I'll be out that particular night watching things go splody and probably putting my hands in inappropriate places on other people's bodies. But I will be prepared to face the music Monday :)

:catroar:

I'm away part of the weekend, so let's let psychocat go for another week. I'll post something 7-18.

Any volunteers?? {Added: to have a story of theirs critiqued AND participate in the discussion, also, of a couple others' stories?}

Thanks to Mab for stirring the coals and bringing people to the discussion.

Pure,

I'm not sure if you saw this, but we had a volunteer in this thread...

Day'sNighs was interested in putting her partially finished story up for discussion...

a volunteer

cantdog seems to be volunteering, so I'm asking him to post his draft, in its own thread, this Sun, July 18.

I am indeed.

It is Saturday night as I write this, and one of the two editors I put the story out to (I can explain if I need to) wrote me back earlier today, saying sorry for the delay, my server was down for x weeks.

So he's just now getting started on it.

The other one has acted normally, meaning nothing has occurred since I actually sent the story. It's short, like, I don't know, five thousand words. But nothing yet.

So this will probably hit the forum here without even benefit of editing. You will be the first.

Once I've been clobbered to a husk I'll repair the screed and post it. I had hoped to be able to link to it, but I'll just post it here. Sorry if that's inconvenient.

I tentatively call it "Yacht Club." It would likely fit best in Group Sex, but there are other possibilities, as you'll see.

Tomorrow, then.

cantdog

Cantdog,

No trouble so long as you post it in its own thread.

With a date in the title for some of the participants.

To All,
I'm out of the country july 23 to aug 1. If rumple is here, I shall leave it to him to see to a posting of a story, sun july 25 and/or sun aug 1. In fact I'll be IN the US of A, but without easy access to a computer.

Happy holidays to all.
