I heard a partial airing via radio on my way back from Sevierville today and I just have to say.. Scalia gets on my last nerve.

whew.

That said, what was the impression you derived from listening to the justices hear the arguments?

Court Hearing

Ruth Bader Ginsburg is the one that get's on my nerves. We would not be going thru all of this if not for Mr. Gore. It seems you people in TN are smart enough not to have voted for him. A person that can't even win their own state should not be elected to any office. I hope you get back to me on this. If you don't I am going to demand a RECOUNT

Actually we wouldn't be going through all this if it weren't for the network execs causing all the ruckus about giving FL, taking FL away, giving FL, taking FL away...

That was what caused all the intense digging and led to the outcry for recounts. Had nothing to do with why my compatriots chose to not vote for Gore.

And, although this issue has been beaten to death, it IS still an issue... apparently no one else chose to tune in. Significant? Maybe.

Court Hearing

As you may be able to tell I am a conservative REPUBLICAN. I am proud of that fact. I am so sick and tired of the liberal democrats and the POLITICAL CORRECTNESS that has been forced down my throat for the past 8 years under Bill Clinton and Al (I Invented Everything) Gore.

The real problem here is that the democrats cannot accept losing and are a bunch of whiners. Gore could care less about FAIRNESS, he wants to be elected by whatever means possible.

The issues that he is trying to make do not stand up to reason. Gore and the democrats always want to divide the people, black vs. white, working class vs. let the government take care of me class, etc.

Again, I apologize to you ladies for this but I am tired of having to apologize for being a hard working middle class white guy.

As far as the tapes go-I didn't even know where to tune in. Any ideas, Vixen?

CNN played it all the way through this afternoon. They are rehashing all the detail right now.

Julia-the SC is slaughtering the Bush attorney. I almost feel sorry for him. He sounds like a little boy trying to rebel against his idols. This is almost painful to hear.

That's what I told my honey when he got home from work and he said can I have your unbiased Gore opinion and I repeat what I had just said.

old white men

And just for the record, Gore never said "I invented the internet" or any other such thing. In fact, the misquote somehow came out of a report issued by the board at MIT, who did invent the internet and still set protocols and standards for it, in which they said no other public official had done more for funding and supporting the internet than Al Gore.

Trash the guy if ya want, I could care, both a those guys are over controlling, repressive, typical old white males, but don't ask me to respect your opinion if ya can't even buy into the facts.

And just to rant, why do old white males always talk about how hard they work? What the fuck do the rest of us do?

And, I'm a hard working middle class white girl. What's your point?

If we turned this around, it would be Bush who'd be demanding recounts. The bottom line is this is a very unique situation, very unique measures are needed in order to resolve it. It does appear as though Gore/Liberman is "Sore Loserman" but that perception is coming mainly from the people who support Bush and want to keep him the victor.

Personally I would like to know where the votes count despite my political viewpoint, simply because I'm American and want to see "every vote counts" be a true statement. Not "every vote we could count up to 5pm on a specific date".

I watched some of it and my reaction was probably typical it was ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
I think Al "Dubya" Gore and the Democrats are going to replace the Napa Valley as America's biggest "whine" producers!!

Court Hearings

Okay, Let me see if I can give you some facts. There have been 2 extremely close elections since 1960 and the losers were Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford. Both of them (YES THAT RIHARD NIXON) could have done the same thing Al Gore is doing now but for the good of the country they chose to let the results stand.

I think history has proven that the Republicans are more for individual rights and Democrats want to have government take care of everything. Look at whom the Unions support, Democrats. Why should I not be able to be fired from my job,if I don't perform my duties, just because I am in a union?

You will 90 that 90% of minorities voted for AL Gore. Why? Because they want the government to keep intact the affirmative action programs and other government services.

George Bush and other Republicans believe ( myself included) that if 2 people are up for a job, promotion, admission to university, etc., that the most QUALIFIED person should get the nod.

Minorities holler that they do not have the same advantages. WHY THE HELL NOT? Do they not have access to the same educational opportunity? I think they do but they would rather not take them.

I am digressing but this is my point why there should never have been a court proceeding. When the courts come down on the George Bush side then write me back. I know you felt sorry for the Bush attorney before the Supreme Court but I think time will tell you was right.

If Al Gore does manage to steal, yes I said STEAL, the eklection I will still support him because he is the Preisdent. I hope you can say the same when George Bush is inaugurated on Jan. 20, 2001.

You're darn right, Farside! Gore should definitely look to Nixon for guidance in matters of ethics! Never mind that Nixon himself waited till December of that year to finally concede, let's not let facts get in the way. I totally agree with you on the minorities issue. Them niggers, spics, queers, and wops think they have a right in this country just because it's founded by immigrants! What's wrong with these deviants? Don't they know that the white man is the only person who makes any kind of contribution to society? that white men are responsible for all the good things in this great country, and that all non-white non-men are nothing but leeches? That you, Farside, for striking a blow for Republicans everywhere. Me and Tom Metzger stand behind you 100%. You do your party proud.

Support him, like the Republicans supported Clinton for the last eight years? Payback's a bitch, buddy. You just wait, with the skeletons in Dubyah's closet, the next 4 years will make the Lewinsky scandal look like Sesame Street.

I heard something on TV before the election that Chernomyrdin is possibly going to file a law suit against D Dubya I. Anybody know any details on this? I'm pretty sure that it has to do with some of his poor oil managment skills. Just what we need--a sitting president being sued by a foreign head of state.

The only time I tuned in to the hearings when when the guy was delivering a book report on Animal Farm, by George Orwell. A bit too surreal for my taste.

To think, as a middle class white man, that you don't have an advantage over minorities in this country is to live in a bubble.

I've argued my points against people like you and have learned that it gets me no where. I won't attempt it on this BB because it would fall on deaf ears. Suffice it to say that I agree with CB.

Here We go againg

Why is that those of you whom support Mr. Gore and the Democratic party, presume to tell those of us that don't, that we are WRONG. That is the major problem I have with you. If I do not think like you then I am a bigot, stupid, and unfeeling towards my fellow human beings.

You have stated that you will not support Mr. Bush when I said that I WOULD support Mr. Gore. Tell me who has the problem here.

You do not want all the votes to count, you only want the votes for your guy to count. You asked about a 5:00p.m. deadline. Hell the polls close at a specific time. Anybody that tries to vote after that time (unless they were already in line) cannot vote. Where is the difference. OH Yeah, the votes you want to count would be for your guy (so you think). You say you want FAIRNESS but you don't really care about fairness. When a deadline is set, it is set for ALL. Your canvassing board in W. Palm Beach could have counted the votes and gotten them in on time but they thought eatting TURKEY was MOPRE IMPORTANT.

It is timew for Mr. Gore to give it up. Like I said in my original post, IF MR. GORE COULD HAVE GOTTEN THE VOTES IN HIS HOME STATE OF TN THEN NONE OF THIS WOULD MATTER. The people in his home state did the right thing in not voting fore him. When was the last time a candidate for President, from a major party, did not carry his home state? I don't know. If someone does please let me know. It may have been Nixon.

Keep up the good thoughts and keep telling me that I am wrong because I don not think like you

I am sooooooo pleased that I now have a deep and thoruogh understanding of the various types of rubber used in voting apparatus.

I can now, in good conscience, claim the title ..... A Fountain of Useless Knowledge.

I'm tellin you right now, a coin toss or pistols at dawn.... much higher TV ratings.

If Gore had conceded the election with a speech that said "OK people, I know the election was stolen, you know the election was stolen, but I am conceding to save the country weeks of legal wrangling." the Democratic party would have ousted the Republicans in two years by a landslide majority. As it stands, every day they lose ground and are now fighting against public opinion. As a strategist, that would have been the best move. As a politician, I can see how it would be hard to give up something you have been fighting for for 4 years.
