Thinking about getting one for the man for Father's Day.

Can you tell me anything about them?

And type slowly, I know nothing of <I'd say video games, but I don't want to offend any connoisseurs>.

I'm looking for pricing, pros, cons, what the fuck is it? The low-down, the skinny.

Help please<smile>

thanks,
perks

you should get

a playstation 2. I was looking at them this weekend. The ps2 is the best one cuz you can use the old games and the new games. It plays c.ds and dvds .... I think its the best one personally. I dont wanna force my opinion on you:D

what does the x-box do? Just play games? or are the graphics better? The man mentioned the x-box in passing, he didn't mention ps2. You'll have to tell me more to sell me.

I have one. The price is coming down to $199 which pisses me off because I got the thing in Feb. for $250. The games run about $50 so I wait until they go on sale. The only drawback is that these isn't as big a selection of games as a PS2 or Game Cube. The graphics are outstanding and even I had no problem getting use to the control pad. My kids were shocked. ;) I bought the NHL game for myself and I love it. You can pick everything down to the players weight and height. If your guy likes games he will really love the X-Box. Plus the thing can play DVD's but you have to buy a converter for it. About $30 but I'd have to go check on that to be sure.

The x-box is like nintendo... Its got the ability to be connected to the internet. for interactive games. But its like all the other nintendo game systems. Once they come out with a new model. This one will be like all the others collecting dust on my shelf. The ps2 is better because it plays old and new games. Its gonna last longer

Alildevilish is right about the availability of the older games, but in my opinion, the Xbox is a far better system. The price is the same for the console, but the graphics and sound are better on the Xbox. Xbox can also play DVDs and has a built in hard drive so you don't have to buy all the extra memory cards to save your games progress.

It's just my opinion, but I say go with the Xbox.

I think the X-box is going pretty cheap right now, around $169. This is usually a bad sign, they might not make tons of cool games for it in the future.

But I've heard Halo is a good game to buy, if you're going to get the console.

I reccomend the PS2, cause it kicks serious ass.

:)

The way the conversation went was...

"If only I could get an x-box to play a golfgame on and a coleman stove, I'd have everything I wanted in one place... besides you, of course"

"Smooth save there, sugah"

"Thanks, I try. Now, about that other stuff."

Right Perky, the xbox is by far the best console to date, although someone will undoubtedly disagree. First off the games, they are some of the best around and getting better all the time.

Secondly, you can play dvd's on an xbox and the picture quality is excellent. You can also hook up to the internet using an xbox, provided your on cable.

You can play music, which is an excellent feature if you have the right sound system.

You can play with four people in one game, at least on some of them.

Plus it recently got dropped in price so now's the time to buy.

:rose:

Carl

ps yes I have got an xbox, plus a game cube and a dream cast all of which are good machines.

how much is it going for?

Semler : The Xbox needs a special contoller to make the DVD player work...PS2 doesn't. It's lame to make people buy special equipment to use a built in feature.

Eventually every system will have a hard drive...it's only a matter of time...having one built in is ok but how many games will actually have hard drive capabilities built in?

Sexy-girl : PS2 is getting old? So if the system has been out more than 2 years it's no good anymore?

Carl : Tell me what some of these great games are? Most of them are just ports that are on other systems or sports/movie type games. I don't see too many original ones coming the Xbox's way.

In fact the only Xbox game I was interested in was MGS2 : Substance. Where you can play as Snake through the Big Shell as well as the Ninja and Plisken.

But, since this game is also coming to the PS2...I dunno if I'll bother with that one.

Graphics don't make the game....it's just eye candy. Wanting to play the game more than 10 minutes is more important than having a game that looks good and has no substance.

See what I mean, you can't have an opinion without someone disagreeing with ya. lol

Tyrael: You clearly haven't played "Amped or Halo" these two games alone are worth buying the xbox for. Plus, some of the games I've seen reviews for look pretty special, and as someone already said the xbox has a lot of money backing it.

I am willing to bet, that in a years time the xbox will be the biggest selling console on this planet, it just needs to get established.

its going to be different prices because im in the uk

but we sell it for £200 on its own (think its $200 in us)

but its best to buy it as part of a deal pack so you can get some games with it and get a discount on the games or extra controllers ... go to a store that does price matching and ask them what there best price match deals are ... if the manager is friendly (like our store) he will often give you even better prices then they are advertising (the advertised price is not the matched price if that makes sense)

tyrael the best thing about PS2's and sony is you know they are going to bring games out for it for a long time like they have with the PS1 ... but if i was buying a new console now the x-box has a years advantage worth of technology behind it

unless there is some games you must have which are PS2 only i'd get an x-box now ... but PS2's are good still

we had some info at work about E3 and the x-box probably was the star of the whole show with some great games coming out

yeah, that won't be in time for Father's day.

He likes football<American> and other sports and fighting games. I'm partial to the fantasy. We used to have a ps1, I loved it. I was addicted to Crash Bandicoot and Tekken
