Anyone for a nightcap?

I'm serious!

I know you are.

This reminds me of a story I once heard about Virgil Grissom, who was reputed to be the most unwashed man in the entire state of Maine. On his wedding night, after Virgil removed his first sock his wife took a wiff and a look at his crusty, moldy, filthy foot. She said, "My God, Virgil, that's the dirtiest foot I've ever seen." Virgil calmly reached for the other sock and said, "Be patient, my dear, be patient."

Hmm, and somehow feet relate to my Chicago dining guide?

(I think my feet smell mostly fine, btw.)

I'm trying to decide if I should feel affronted.....

Ugh!
But not helping me with the dining guide!

Here's your first installment, with others to follow in a more appropriate medium:

Arya Bhavan, Indian - 2508 W. Devon Ave. This vegetarian Indian restaurant is located about 8 miles north of the Loop and can be accessed easily from Lake Shore Drive (exit at Devon Ave.). When i ate here a couple weeks ago, I had a simple supper of fresh naan and a vegetable vindaloo that was at once intriguing and satisfying. The chai tea was hot, flavorful, and also fresh. While I ordered from the menu, there is also an excellent and reasonable buffet that would afford a diner to try out several dishes. This pick came courtesy of our friend Netzach, btw.

It's not feet but I'll introduce food into my fun at any opportunity.

Ahh....my third kink might reveal..... :)
(I had no idea, frankly)

And thank you for the Arya Bhavan suggestion. I do like Indian cuisine.
(Thanks, too, Netzach!)

I know it's not a me thing, but I'm leaping in.
I lived in Chicago only a year. But I ate better than I did in NYC. Shhhh.

Breakfast - Svea
5236 N. Clark St.
Chicago, IL 60640

Get the Viking breakfast.

Whatever you do, don't miss the pancakes.

Why there isn't Scando food this good anywhere in the Twin Cities is anyone's mystery.

Don't bother with Ann Sather. Go here.

I pass a Cheeseburger in Paradise every few weeks but I've never stopped in there. I eat cheeseburgers about once every 6 months so I pick my opportunities based on solid reviews and/or personal knowledge only.

If you are ever here, there are two places worth doing this at. Cafe 128 in Linden Hills serves up Clancy's beef, ground a mere block away at the organic/locally grown specialty butcher. Get the bacon swiss.

Or go to Cafe Maude and get a bacon burger with Mahon cheese, which is made in some woodfired contraption.

The bacon on both of these I'm pretty sure is the same - Pastures a Plenty, locally grown, and unlike most things that get called bacon entirely.

I have no idea what to drink at the 128 any more, they changed up the wine list on me. I hate that.

At Maude, the cocktails reign. The fig/espresso infused martini I had was great, sweet without being cloying and dumb, very pleasant.

How do I not know this?!!!
I've been traveling to Chicago far too long to miss a good breakfast place.

(Although many years ago, I loved going to Lou Mitchell's, back when I was, well, younger, but anyway, there was a Maitre de, of sorts... who handed out chocolates (sugar babies, as I recall) to the women in line.) He (long gone, I think) is tucked into my memory of what a gentleman is...
So yeah....4th kink....sorta...

And Lou Mitchell's still hasn't changed, btw.....

I have had no idea where you live. Twin Cities is you?
And no Scando breakfast haunts? hmmm....

Thank you much for the other recommendations.

I second this. Ann Sather is no longer worthy of icon status, though it had earned that reputation long before I moved to Chicago in the early 1970s. Svea continues to be a great place for all things edible and Scandinavian. Will have to try the full-on viking breakfast sometime when I have to be in the city early anyway.

Duly noted, thank you very much.

Forest Glen Cabernet Sauvignon (2004) - just enough pepper to make the beef stew go down like silk.

Sigh...water...from the fridge, tonight.
Doing a fasting blood test tomorrow. No need for alcohol to show up......

Lily, the Lush.....

I hope your appointment is for early in the day. My last such test was just before noon and I thought I was going to eat the pancake house bare when I finally got to go have some lunch.

Thank you. Yes it is. Wish me luck!

I have finally finished my stash of Mirrasou and am drinking Anapamu Chardonnay tonight. It is quite nice.

But just one glass. I skipped the fasting blood test last week and now have to do so tomorrow. Trying to find the source of an allergy so I can't procrastinate much longer.

Hoping that I am not allergic to wine...
