Anyone for a nightcap?

Matzoh brei for breakfast. Maybe it's not as good as I remembered. Or maybe I didn't soak the matzoh long enough. Kidlet voted for yogurt.

And coffee, coffee, coffee as usual.

I actually do like turkey bacon.

I'm a fan of Morningstar farms fake soy bacon. I have no issues with the real deal when it's Pastures' A' Plenty thick cut local mmmmmm - but for stuff that goes in the freezer, I have to say this is the ONE soy faux meat that does the job, and does it better than the hormel crappy real thing. If I kept the pig rule I'd be all over it, as it is trying not to eat empty calories, I'm all over it.

You have a good recipe for a kosher blt? I've been looking for one of those for years. ;)

I'm with you: I can enjoy almost any food so long as it's done well on its own terms. I eat burgers and fries from grease-laden paper wrappers if that's what's in front of me. The same goes for all manner of everyday fare from all manner of cuisines.

I do draw a couple of lines, though: I cringe at casseroles that are glued together with fray soup concentrate and will only nibble at them when forced by circumstances. The other line has to do with Jell-O because I know that it is of the devil and I have my limits with respect to doing communion with Beelzebub.

Jello is repulsive. Why do they give you something that makes you want to hurl when you are well when you are sick? I tell them I'd rather be NPO than eat jello if I'm in there anyway.

Really? I've seen that one - I'll have to try it. Have you tried Nieman Ranch bacon? It's OMG fucking good.

Yeah, that IS really good.

Real bacon is amazing. I first had non-crap bacon in Ireland.

There are some real perks to being in the Midwest. All the restaurants in my admittedly rather swank hood serve Pastures A' Plenty and Nieman if they're not all "local local local"

I rather like their faux breakfast sausage patties in fact. That aside, there is little in this world that is as fully satisfying as really, really good bacon.

You guys are making me feel pathetic. I'm in my hotel room, eating a grilled cheese sandwich from the kids menu and washing it down with Berringer Chard.

I really, really want a filet mignon wrapped in bacon right now...with sauteed mushrooms in garlic and lots of butter... maybe some creamed spinach on the side...
And a molten lava cake for dessert....

That's what you get for traveling to Dubuque. ;)

Ha Ha Mr Smartypants...
Actually, I'm in Toronto where I know there's good food...I just got in way too late to have that heavy of a meal. I felt pretty sneaky ordering from the kids menu but fortunately they didn't ask for proof of age....

(BTW, I am certain that Dubuque has delicious corn fed beef as well as yummy bacon. Not sure if they eat garlic there, though....) ;)

Toronto does, indeed, have excellent food (and people). The Chinatown is fabulous. If you're in one of the close-in suburbs along the 407 Highway north of downtown, one place I can recommend is a steak house called The Keg. It's on Yonge Street, a half mile or so north of 407.

Thanks for the restaurant tip....duly noted in my Mr MWY Guidebook....my client actually is in that general direction although tonight I'm staying in a downtown hotel. The Keg will have to wait for my next visit though as this trip, like my last Chicago trip, is a fly-by. And it will take me 9 hours to get home tomorrow. Ugh... I could fly to Paris in less time... and frankly, I would rather be flying to Paris tomorrow...

I think its time for you to publish a Travel Guide, by the way..... just sayin'....you know all the cool places... :rose:

I shall have to try them on that say-so. I generally avoid soy trying to be meat, just be tofu!

Mmm...sleep. Sleep is so hawt. I am so psyched to...snore...what?

Tonight I had Pacifico with my denero. Wait, that's money. That's right, I took French.

After dinner I had a couple of lemon pistachio biscotti, homemade by moi. I'm sooo fabulous.

Hmmm.. this thread is tilting earlier and earlier toward the morning.

Perhaps I should be concerned?

Writing this at the decent hour of almost 11pm PT.....while drinking a wine (that, oh damn, I failed to to memorize the label.) But it tastes good. Especially since I gave up wine on weekdays. And just from that, btw, I've lost 8 lbs in the last 6 or so weeks.....

Just for the record, I will be drinking coffee tomorrow morning. No alcohol for me until after 6pm in my own time zone. (just playing smug....)
