Hello,
Does anyone know of any upcoming meetings of Literotica authors?
Especially in the midwest?

You two sure know how to make outsiders feel welcome. Sheesh.
I suppose it's the name, Lauren. ;) Though this Dr M doesn't necessarily know of the Dr M that is known and loved here in the AH, something others may want to keep in mind before jumping to the worst possible conclusion. Of course, Dran could be right, too.

Dr M, there are meetings of AH authors/posters on occasion, but generally among people who have "known" each other online for a while before meeting. Personally, I don't think I'd be comfortable going to meet a complete stranger.

Ditto. The known sickos are FAR stranger than the strangers -- and lots more fun. :D

I would personally love to meet other authors in my area... as long as it was quite clear from the beginning that it was a WRITER'S meeting, and not a sexual playground. *bad experiences there* Something where we all got together at a neutral, preferably eating/drinking establishment with very long hours, our notebooks and pens and highlighters, and had a good, upbeat and interesting meeting between writers looking to work with other writers to improve their work.

But then again, I don't go much for sexual playgrounds in general, unless it's the local pansexual one. :D

I thought I asked you not to mention that to anyone!?!? I said I was sorry and it wouldn't happen again.

Well, I didn't mention you by NAME... you just went and told on yourself, dummy. ;)

just asking

Hello,

Actually I was surprised at the more negative responses. I really wanted
to know if there were any official literotica conventions where authors met.
It seems that any meetings are more like secret societies. If there are many
in the midwest, drop me a line and understood it is not a sex meet.

Dr Mabuse (the good one)

Dr M
I know I am having two for dinner in early May, but otherwise - I am quite clueless and not in the midwest. What a treat it would be to meet you!

Um. What?

Perhaps you are truly unaware that your Lit name is nearly identical to a longtime member and excellent author?

The negative responses are because of that, of course.

And as for the secret society meetings?

Well, you have to know the password.

Actually, this brings up the larger issue of erotica authors participating in general writers' groups. There are lots of writers' groups and meetings around and I would love to get feedback from other authors, but I am not sure how erotica would go over with a general crowd. I publish on the web anonymously; I can't imagine sitting in a circle with 15 people I don't know, or worse that I do know, most of them writing Regency romance and mystery, reading aloud, "she pushed her finger into my..." I'd die.

Has anyone ever taken their stuff to a writers' group or convention and how did it go? Do I just need to get over my own hangups and do it?

(The above wasn't a slam on romance or mystery authors. I am well aware that there is a quickly growing field of erotic romance, and I periodically think of entering it. I am just saying that not everyone is comfortable with erotic lit, even when it is as soft as my stuff. It would be hard to get constructive feedback if they are embarassed to be there with my story.)

Something like that, yes. And maybe one or two  and the occasional oh-so-innocent

I'm going to take a writing class in the near future.

I'll let you know.
I thought about doing an evening class last year but chickened out. Let me know how it goes.

Oh, man. It's not your hangups you need to worry about at all!
I've tried it, and it's just so damn uncomfortable.

Well, you have to know the password.

The existence of a password was supposed to a secret...hence...the term secret password. We will have to incorporate a secret handshake and eyebrow wiggle to be used in conjunction with the "not quite as secret as it once was" password....
