Ok, as we've been talking about in another thread, just because you're a sub, doesn't mean you aren't a good leader. But I think I've noticed a small similiarity. How many of us are in jobs of caregiving? Like . . . nursing, or teaching, or full time mothering, or day care. . . you get the idea.

This is sooooooooo weird. I was just thinking of this earlier tonight.

I noticed while posting that there are many nurses on this board (this is my career)

I was going to ask just about the same thing.

hmmm well I am in something of a caretaker job, but I also own the business, so....*shrugs*. That's my vanilla life though, I've never seen considered there to be a valid connection between what we do for a living and how we choose to live.

There are always exceptions to the rule, and maybe I'm totally wrong. But I was curius. Before I became an at home mom I was a CNA and before that I was a caregiver for the elderly and disabled. In high school I helped out in the special ed room, and babysat. *shrugs* It'll be interesting to find out.

Just an FYI

Even though she doesn't post on here anymore, I worked with another nurse who was a sub.

I'm a nurse, and I'm Dominant, I also know other Dom/mes who are nurses, and a couple of Doms who are in radiology, respiratory therapy, or are doctors ... I don't know that there is any real correlation to which role in D/s or BDSM you take, but I will agree that there are A LOT of kinksters in the medical profession (from nursing assistants to doctors).

True enough. Maybe it's just a medical profession thing. Well like I said, I was just curious.

I know a lot of submissive proDommes, that's human services, isn't it?

Miss Karen

My theory on this is that in order to be in the medical profession, you need to have a very high comfort zone with human bodies and the things that they do...things that often "squick" the average person. You also have to have the ability to respect a persons privacy under sometimes very 'strange' circumstances. People that are involved in a lifestyle of their own where these skills and abilities are a part of their own lives understand that better and *have* to be more down to earth and accepting in their jobs in order to deal with it I think. Perhaps this leads to said people being more accepting and open in their own lives and more likely to explore their interests rather than ignore them which I personally feel many many vanillas do...[have interests they refuse to recognize because it deviates from what they consider 'normal'].

I'm mostly a college student, but I work in a day care center, with the 4-5 year olds.

As I said, I'm a stay at home mom, but I also do day care. I watch my sisters 6 and 5 year old, and my best friends 6 year old. So on an average day I have 3 6 year olds, a 5 year old, a 3 year old and an 18 month old. The little girl who lives across the street is 4, so when I stand down at the bus stop I've got a child of every age. I've actually considered renting one of the fake maternity bellys - see if I can make someone drive off the road. ;) LOL

I think "caregiver" is a trait both subs and Dom/mes have to possess. We just do it in different ways.

<-SAHM & former (and will be again) special ed. teacher

True enough, Dom/mes and Subs just have different ways of taking care of their partner.

You are very observant! I'm an elementary teacher. I am in complete control of twenty-five students on a daily basis.

I am the director of some of the residence halls on a university campus and I teach graduate level course work. In every aspect of my life, except the bedroom, I am the director, the leader, the controller...

but when it comes to sex....take the control away....PLEASE!

I am! I run a website for women -- to get info and join a community. Definitely nuturing. :)

I am a full-time mother, part-time accountant, and part-time cheerleading coach. I must deal and nuture children for 3/4 of the day, whether it be actual children, or adults behaving as such.

On one side, it's trying. day in and day out. On the other, I couldn't see my life any other way.

~Considers envying all the career-havers~

Nah. I'm a full time slave. I actually had someone I hadn't seen in a while ask what I was doing these days, and I pointed to my collar and smiled. Told him, "Full time. Professionally. I get a stipend, and room & board, and lots of fulfillment."

I think full-time slave definitely qualifies as a "Caregiver" position...:)

LOL I can just imagine his/her face! And I think that full time slave does qualify as a caregiver position. LOL

Count me in on the nurse/care side of things.

I am very assertive but love to nurture teens/adults, love to feel there is a point to my day.

When I moved into management I got enjoyment from nuturing staff and seeing the light go on for them when they achieved something or got a resident to respond to them (learning disabilities/mental retardation) that mentoring sharing role.

Now as a slave and owned (sadly not full-time..yet), I get a real joy out of supporting Him and making our time together relaxing free from worry for Him.

Alot of carers appear to be subs/slaves to a partner yet don't realise they are.

Miss Karen I have met a few Dommes in nursing both qualified and unqaulified, (you know the auxilarry nurse who REALLY runs the ward lol) all they needed were the thigh high boots to complete the tone of voice and demands made :D

Coming from a male sub, it doesn't hold. :D

Right now my projected occupation is accounting. I hear a bit that accountants are quite a bit, kinky male subs. Not too sure about that but it could be true.

Hmmm. Now that you mention it, Graham is taking a course on holistic therapy, including massage and aromatherapy.

But I've got you all beat. I take care of all the neighborhood strays, including taking them to the vet when they're sick as well as feeding them. I don't make money on this, instead it costs me money. I guess you could say I get paid in purrs and ankle-rubbings.
