He's about as stupid and idiotic as the asshole who beat the shit out of a Mexican guy (nearly killing him) just because he THOUGHT that the Mexican guy was from Mid-East Asia.

Anger and stupidity make a dangerous combination. Incidents like this have become way too common as of late. I know of a few other board members that have had to deal with situations such as this in the past few weeks. Some had gotten caught in the middle like yourself, others were the targets of the racism. This is really sad and pathetic the way some are directing their hatred toward innocents.
So far, I've yet to see anything myself other then hearing what one person told another person they saw. What I have seen is one man asking his friends not to refer to him in public by his real first name. Seriously, he's afraid to be called by his name in a public place since he feels it gives away his nationality. Since there's a large hispanic population around here, he feels the need to try and "blend in" with everyone else.

Unfortunately, the events of 9/11 are bringing out the worst in those whose prejudices were kept tightly sealed up.
At a recent even in the place where I live (which is something like 94% white), I spent a half hour trying to explain to a woman what a Sikh was and that they were NOT Moslem. I finally gave up. It was distressing to hear all around me the blatant, in-your-face hatred for anyone from the Middle East.
I was particularly upset when a friend of my mother's made the comment that when "they" come here "they" should no longer be allowed to observe "their" cultural heritage because it is "foreign" to the way America is. When I told her we needed to stop observing Christmas then, because it is not native to America, she actually tried to tell me it was.

what i find quite disturbing too is how the "normal" people seem to becoming more racially prejudiced as well when you see normal people friends even speaking racial garbage it makes me sad

Non-violent dissention, disobedience, and disagreement are fundamental to freedom and healthy for democracy. Seems like there's a lot of people out there who can't stand a different point of view.

Fortunately, the backlash against individual citizens has proved to be much less ferocious than i imagined it might be.
However, there are always gonna be assholes, right? And people that are just generally pissed off at the world? And psychos? Situations like the WTC bombing bring all the whackos out of the woods and give their madness some pseudo-legitimacy and a little bit of room to maneuver, at least for a short time.

What do assholes do? They spew crap. Some of them simply want to make money over the current affair. Others want to control you. Still others, it seems, are quite happy to pass reactionary legislative agendas.

Prejudice is a learned trait. People are not born being prejudice, they are taught it by parents/relatives/peers. This incident has brought the worse for any minority, I know, I have been on the receiving end.
All my life I have lived with people who feel it is their right to tell me I should be thankful for being allowed to live in this country. "My kind" just don't realize how lucky we are.
"My kind" hails from South Korea, born there...came to the USA when I was 6 months old, but because I look different (non-white...not to be offensive to anyone here!) I have been accused of such things as being responsible for the Korean War, the Viet Nam war, etc...
My solution to people who are like this?
