Aliens? Do you believe?

I occasionally think how quickly our differences worldwide would vanish if we were facing an alien threat from outside this world. And yet, I ask you, is not an alien force already among us?"

"I've often wondered," the President told us once again, "what if all of us in the world discovered that we were threatened by an outer -- a power from outer space, from another planet." And then he emphasized his theme that this would erase all the differences, and that the "citizens of the world" would "come together to fight that particular threat..."
(President Ronald Reagan, September 21, 1987, To the 42nd General Assembly of the United Nations)

The "truth" was known by only a very few persons... Of the original group that were the first to learn, several committed suicide. (James V. Forrestal, Secretary of Defense 1892-1949)

Roswell Army Air Base, Roswell, N.M. 8th July, 1947, A.M. - The many, many rumors regarding the flying disc became a reality yesterday when the intelligence office of the 509th Bomb Group of the Eighth Air Force, Roswell Army Air Field, was fortunate enough to gain possession of a disc through the cooperation of one of the local ranchers and the sheriff's office of Chaves County. The flying object landed on a ranch near Roswell sometime last week. Not having phone facilities, the rancher stored the disc until such time as he was able to contact the sheriff's office, who in turn, notified Major Jesse A. Marcel of the 509th Bomb Group Intelligence Office. Action was immediately taken and the disc was picked up at the rancher's home. It was inspected at the Roswell Army Air Field and subsequently loaned by Major Marcel to higher headquarters. (Roswell Daily Record, July 8th, 1947)

"We all know that UFOs are real. All we need to ask is where do they come from." (Apollo 14 astronaut, Captain Edgar D. Mitchell, 1971)

"It is time for the truth to be brought out... Behind the scenes UFOs. But through official secrecy and ridicule, many citizens are led to believe the unknown flying objects are nonsense.... I urge immediate Congressional action to reduce the dangers from secrecy about unidentified flying objects." (Former CIA Director Vice Admiral Roscoe Hillenkoetter, signed statement to Congress, August 22, 1960)

"I’d like to tell the public about the alien situation, but my hands are tied." (John F. Kennedy, 1963, unverified)

"This 'flying saucer' situation is not at all imaginary or seeing too much in some natural phenomena. Something is really flying around. The phenomenon is something real and not visionary or fictitious." (Gen. Nathan Twining
Chief of Staff, US Air Force, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff)

Almost forgot this little gem....

"The nations of the world will have to unite, for the next war will be an interplanetary war. The nations of the earth must someday make a common front against attack by people from other planets." (General Douglas MacArthur - Oct. 8, 1955)

It is my belief that there must be life on other planets due to it being very very unlikely that Earth was the one to evolve in a universe the size that it is.

However....

I am very skeptical with regards to little green men, grey men, daleks, triphids or god knows what else already visiting earth, and I am a TRUE disbeliever that the US (or any other government) is working with, or in posession of alien technology.

Why do i think this? I have no idea, its just my belief.

I will happily joke that if i came to a planet that liked music by the Spice Girls, i would quickly go find somewhere else to land. :D

well, being from another planet, i say i have good reason to believe in extraterrestrial life.

I feel I don't even have to answer us.

But we are living with aliens today. They are snakes. Note this historical and religious signifigance of them all. The Garden of Eden for instance.. Notice the Snake empowers the human beings with knowledge, but he also causes them great pain. Stiumulus/responce. Fear the snake masters. Look at the Egyptian heiroglyphs.. Snakes paid a large and signifigant role in their beliefs.

Also Aliens (the non-snake variety) abducted a virgin once, then impregnated her with a non-snake alien. That alien's name? Jesus Christ. Ever wonder why he had such power over regular human beings? He said that we could be redeemed by following his ways. Thus makig us fear and respect our alien masters.

considering some of the customer i get lately, i believe in aliens, cause those people aure as hell arent normal

Currently I believe that Life and even intelligent life could exist. While aliens may have visited us, I doubt either that they know substantially about us or that if there are any who are aware of them know substantially anything about them.

I also think an outside threat by aliens would not stop humans from being the fracticious bastards that they are by nature.

That's what we're counting on.

fuck searching for intelligent life in outer space!

we need to find intelligent life here on Earth, first!

I'm sure they are out there but why is it people always presume they are more advanced than us? Maybe we're the little pink/brown/black men.

If we were to encounted extraterrestrial life, do you think that it could finally dispell religious belief? Or is that just wishful thinking?

Mainly because if they do exist (and I'm sure they do) it would be from outside our own galaxy, which means they have technology we lack. Before anyone asks, the reason I believe we are far from alone is simple deductive reasoning.

Scientists claim for every sun (or star) you can see in the night sky, there is one of more planets orbiting it. As there are billions of stars, the odds that life doesn't exist elsewhere is astromical.

Whether or not we're being visited is quite a different story, and one I wouldn't like to speculate on.

I don't see how that follows at all.

I think it's a little naive to believe we are the only ones out in this great universe.

But...

Who are the aliens...them or us! ;)

Yes there is life else where besides on this screwed up planet we live on. I firmly believe that over the centuries they have visited this planet leaving gifts(so to say) with each visit.

Ok, let me try another approach. The nearest star system to us, is still light years away, so assuming they came from that system if their technology wasn't as good as ours, it would take them hundreds of years to get here.

Some could argue that there is no faster way to travel, (which I don't believe incidently, we just haven't discovered it yet) and that they could place themselves into deep sleep/freeze until they reached a habitable planet. The only flaw in this argument is that they would have to land eventually, so we'd know.

Besides, to even get off their own planet they'd have gone through all the tests and experiementation our own scientists have done. Which means that they are at least up to our technology or beyond it.

I know what you are trying to say but you are making the assumption that they find us whereas I was suggesting it could be us who find them.

The quotes above are not of a kind. Some are from speeches. Some are conversational toss-offs. None of them say "The government has proof of UFOs and here's the file number!" They're all speculative, most made by non-scientists, including Presidents, who were raised with the perception that the Universe was finite, and could be traversed if you just had a fast enough rocketship.

For example, this quote: “I’d like to tell the public about the alien situation, but my hands are tied.” was supposedly said, by Kennedy, to a Steward about Air Force One, after the Steward asked “What do you think about these UFOs?” The “quote” is highly spurious, and, even if accurate, hardly amounts to anything substantial. Take away the context in which the statement was (supposedly) made sure does make it sound offical and junk. In other words, presenting that sentence above as an offical reaction from Kennedy on UFOs, and not as the off-hand, in-flight remark to a passing waitress that it was, is silly.

Many of the other quotes, when placed in context, are not nearly as impressive as they seem catalogued here.

I see what you mean now Flagg, in that case yes we could very well be more advanced. Unfortunately, we are far from ready of making such a journey, we only just have mars in our grasp.

Has anyone ever seen the opening credits to the new (StarTrek) Enterprise, and the way they show you the progression from ship to ship. That's exactly how we'll eventually start to explore our universe, in ever increasing knowledge of the forces (such as gravity) we'll encounter, and how to overcome them.

That's just my opinion.
