An hour long special on Fox news channel at 10pm last night confirmed just about everything the old Amicus has been saying for three years on this forum.

While earth has been warming since the last ice age, there is no evidence that activity by man has any effect on global climate.

Time Magazine back in the 70's shouted hysterically, "New Ice Age Coming!" on the front page of their publication. Recently they used the same hysterical language in warning about global warming due to man.

All left wing politics, like the Kyoto Accord, meant to slow business and industry in the United States and other developed nations.

"All a lie..." "One of the biggest science hoax's since the Loch Ness Monster!"
"Not a word of truth!"

Rather a damning report on the left wing press and manipulated science.

So all you little pink worryworts, so concerned about the future of man because of capitalism, can go back to your Starbucks Magnum Mocha at $4.75 a pop and be content in your cocoon.

No global warming.

See? I tole you so!

I'm just having difficulty equating Fox, Science and News as actually being linked together.

That's certainly never happened before.

I pretty much agree with you, Fox can be biased right as CNN is biased left, but this presentation took in a large segment of the scientific community and presented both sides of the issue, even to the point of mentioning Al Gore and his ecological stance.

I'd like to follow the train of logic, just out of interest. There's been a lot of research and some very plausible theories which support the idea that greenhouse gases are thickening the greenhouse layer and causing more heat to be trapped. It's not conclusive and you argue that this means it should be ignored.

Fox News has a one hour special and says that there's no correlation between greenhouse gases and any heating of the Earth and you argue that this is utter gospel truth which definitively proves your point.

Why is one source superior to the other, aside from it supporting your point?

I have been doing independent research for years on global warming, glacier melting, sea level rising and greenhouse gases created by man and by nature, Water vapor is the biggest contributor to green house gases, not mankind.

I wish you had seen the program, they mention that nations all over the world are working to control pollution of all kinds for a cleaner environment, this was not a one sided report but a rather objective one.

Increased interest since the 2005 hurricane season has prompted science comunities all over the world to research if the activities of man has changed the weather to the degree that it might cause more and larger tropical cyclones.

All the evidence says that man in not responsible, that it is mainly cyclical in nature and the forces involved are not only chaotic and complex but huge beyond the scale of man to intervene or influence in any major way.

The most telling point made in the program was the admission that the Kyoto Accords were all a ploy to 'level the world's playing field between industrialized and non industrialized nations..." They also said that Russia, by claimning vast expanses of Siberia as industrial potential but non polluting, gained eco credits which they sell to Spain and GB who are exceeding or about to exceed the Kyoto Protocol and must buy 'credits' from the Russians. Russia is scheduled to make 12 Billion US dollars income from selling those credits.

Perhaps you can get a transcript from Fox News or they may rerun the program at a future date.

Did anyone manage to watch it? Global Warming, the Debate Continues, was the title I think...

Why is everything a left wing conspiracy according to you?

I pity you, I really do. It must be sad to live in your world where everything that happens is a conspiracy of some sort.

Regardless of what Fox News says, there is Global Warming, I need only to point to the shrinking glaciers in the Rockies, and in Alaska for proof of that.

What is the cause of the global warming? It could be just a natural cycle, but I think it is being sped up by the amount of greenhouse gases being put into the atmosphere.

You seem to do a lot of research? But, when asked you can never produce any of it.

Maybe we should repeal all of the EPA regulations, that would be good for business...maybe make child labor legal...business and industry could pay them less...don't worry about safety, let's get rid of all OSHA regulations...there's alwasy a steady supply of children...yeah, that would be good for business and industry...what a utopian world...too bad we couldn't breathe the air or drink the water...

!

I don't know what Amicus knows about the causes of Global Warming but I suspect he may know rather more about the production and causes of Hot Air. :)

HAH! Funny!

So, amicus, what you're saying is that global warming is just a global warping of global waffling into a global warning, and that global warding is no more desireable than global warring?

Ok, got it.

Let's see how the hurricane season goes this year, shall we?
And the typhoon season.

A Fox one hour special must be right!

We can all bury our heads in the sand.

I find it very interesting that we(man) can think so much of himself that he believes he is the cause of a global happening on this planet that has been around million if not billions of years longer then he.

We(man) have spent such an insignificant time here on Earth that I find it hard to believe that we are now the cause of a .3 degree rise in the global mean temperature. With all the temperture rises in the distant past, when we weren't around, although man thinks a lot of himself, the conceit needed to blame ourselves for something that is happening again now is beyond belief.

I'm sure in the cosmic scheme of things mans contribution of all those nasty gases, which just happen to spew out of the gound day in and day out around the world, just happened to push the envolope beyond that which this little ole planet could handle.

As both sides of the debate continue to argue the merits of their theory and belittle those of others, I (me) will continue to live my life without much thought to either side.

So sayth the doom sayer!

Brilliant, Liar.

And now I want waffles.

The fact that human influenced global warming is real is like evolution in the scientific community. It's such an accepted fact no one really bothers debating it.

The question is how bad will it get, and when.

And here's a link to a little rag called "Science". Some might argue it is THE most reputable journal in the US. (Nature is bigger in Europe, and Cell is more biologically focused)

Nice ref, James SD

it seems the consensus is there, and it would take some detailed analysis to critique that, such as neither Amicus can, nor Fox cares to make.

it always amazes me when the devotee of 'objective facts,' never has any references and mostly relies on Fox news*--but hey, that's the network of choice for Airforce One, I've heard.

*or his own, or Ayn Rand's novels.

then you're ready for Atlas Shrugged--indidentally a virtual handbook on how to approach left wing conspiracies such as 'global warming.'

Amicus,
Let me try to place this in economic terms:

Fox News, as the house organ of the corporatist Right, has an economic incentive to give their substantial corporate advertisers, and cooperative government regulators, not only the benefit of scientific doubt, but the benefit of twisting science to support their benefactors. Surely, as objective and cynical a critic of the public discourse as yourself would grant this obvious point.

At the same time, on the Left, we have Academe - suckling at the teat of government and quasi-government (ie, the UN) research grants, pandering to the forces of excessive regulation and interference in the marketplace.

As a former syndicated (commercial) researcher, allow me to let you in on an unspoken dictum of the business: You never arrive at an unequivocal conclusion. The research may show overwhelming support for the hypothesis, at a 95% confidence level, and unless you're bringing a drug to market, the conclusion is always tempered with the caveat this needs further research to confirm.

At this point, the 'smart' industry resaerch money is already moving on to "how can we make money from this change". The Academics are moving ever more into predictive modeling, with an eye on that 'smart' money. The hacks are selling their credibility in research to support PR spin and governmental foot-dragging to delay any action until there is a clear plan for the corporatists.

It's the free market in action, Amicus. ;)
