Age Old Question: What makes a popular Loving Wives story?

Sadly, one of my favorite categories has seen a big decline in recent months & years, referring to the Group Sex place. It seems to be going the way of BDSM in that less people view that Hub and those stories.

I'm thinking of venturing into Loving Wives because it has so many viewers.

I know it's been asked before, but what kinds of sex stories make people happy? Aside from vengeful, women-hating stories?

Most likely my future mmf gangbang stories could end up in Loving Wives or even Anal (where group sex themes are appreciated).

It is a win / fail system. Obviously I like the categories, it gets me to the stories I like, or maybe more accurately, they rule out stories I don't really want to read. At all or at the moment. But at the same time, as we all know, the story you'd love to read could be exactly what you want but in another category. Group Sex is such a broad term. But most stories could be included in a lot of categories. If Anal happens but isn't the focus, does that mean it goes into Anal? Just because it's included? It sucks that Group Sex is going into a decline but probably because most people think of Swingers as all that would be in there.

What we really need are set tags. That go above the ones you can type in yourself. If anal happens click anal. More than two people have sex at once? Group Sex. This way categories could still be there but a story could essentially be in more than one. You could have a story that nails (giggity) all the categories. But obviously that will never happen because somebody would have to decide how to take care of all the old stories, maybe program in registered users being able to choose the Hard Tags for those after they read one.

There's so many factions there, including the ones bomb anything that's not a BTB story, I don't think there's an answer to this other than do your thing and toss it up there.

Infamy, not fame is more the result there these days.

Getting a lot of attention in LW is kind of like the attention you'd get dousing yourself in blood and jumping into the ocean.

From what I've seen it looks like you'll get a lot of views and a lot of angry 1 bombs from self-righteous prigs moaning like a stood up prom date over cuckoldry. Hell, I got that for a LESBIAN story. I can't wait until people get back to work and get their brains screwed back on. Personally, if I venture that way I'm going to deny anonymous votes/comments. I did get a comment like that from a member, I emailed him and he said he didn't like that plot because his wife had an affair years ago etc and our email exchange gave him the opportunity to get it off his chest (I'm a lonely guy, I like emailing my commentors/followers)

I think of Loving Wives as more or less having four main constituencies, although there probably are variations: BTB, cuckold, stag/vixen/ and RAAC.

I assume you are interested in the hotwife-type story, of either the cuckold or stag/vixen variety.

There is no way to make every reader happy in this category, because there is so much hostility among the groups. But if you are willing to accept some downvoting from the BTB crowd, there are plenty of appreciative readers of hot wife stories. You can pick up plenty of views and favorites.

Stag/vixen (no humiliation) probably will get a better overall reception than cuckold.

I'm a fan of the "hot wife" type story and have written several. I've read many. Some random thoughts on what will make one popular (assuming you are not going to try to soften things for the BTB crowd--I advise you to ignore them):

1. I think there's a bigger appetite among fans of these stories for getting really dirty and really crazy. There are a lot of men, AND women, who like reading stories about wives going crazy-sexy.
2. Play up the transition: how does she become a hotwife? For many this is the sexiest part.
3. Take your time to make it at least slightly plausible. You can't rush the process of going from proper wife, to tempted wife, to hot wife. To be optimal the story might be longer than your usual stories.
4. Play up the marriage as good rather than weak. Maybe there are some problems, but I think you'll get a better reception if at the end it seems like both husband and wife are getting a lot out of her activities.

One of my favorite stories of this kind is Home Business by bobfr. It was published in Loving Wives in 2003. Its score is only 4.27 but it has over 860,000 views and over 200 favorites.

I like the stag/vixen stories in the LW category. And my own series with several chapters there is a couple who embrace that attitude.

If you are rating-obsessed, then just avoid LW. If you can accept about a 0.7 overall lower rating, then write what you want there in LW and accept the lower score. As said above and in my readings there in LW, BTB stories rate the best, or stories told from the perspective of the bull humiliating the other husband. (Trolls seem to think that's a husband getting what he deserves for not controlling his slut.)

But any loving couple in a consensual sharing/feel good story will receive the worst treatment with 1 ratings and hateful comments. If that happens to one of your stories there, don't comment and react. Also, don't include any author note trying to justify or explain why sharing is good. That will only serve to attract some stalking troll who will open your other stories and 1-bomb them.

I've only written one LW story, and only a 750 word challenge one at that.

I caught so much shit from it from both trolls and readers accusing me of intentionally feeding them lol.

I'll probably never write one again.

I did write a story about a very loving swinging married couple but posted it in Group sex instead of LW.

I'd rather have less readers than have assholes trolling the story and bitching because a married couple had consenting sex with other partners without negative consequences.

Interesting, how do you know that women read Loving Wives ?

I'm always curious about demographics. I certainly appreciate having women readers.

I have no idea what the stats are, but I've had women readers tell me they like these stories and are turned on by them. They've referred to the woman character in my story and said "I wish that was me!"

To clarify: I'm less certain that women read this category than I am that there is a large group of women readers who like these kinds of stories, wherever they are posted.

If you write the story from the perspective of “the other man”, you can do quite well in LW. It may seem like a minor thing, but there are a lot of readers who don’t react well if a story is told from the perspective of a man who could be described as a wimp/cuck etc. The husband is a relatively minor character. Readers prefer to think of themselves as the guy who catches a hot wife. A couple of my stories use this strategy and have good ratings.

I would advise you to only write into the LW category if you are ready for a whole lot of nasty comments regardless of how you write. Simon said it right about the themes that a LW story follows, but at the same time, if you're wanting to move into LW stories, then make sure you write the story for yourself and not anyone else.
And in regards to the haters, don't worry too much about them. I have gotten a lot of hate as a LW author, however, what makes it worthwhile is I have also gotten some amazing private responses from readers, people who have told me how much what I wrote helped them.

In looking at writing an LW story, think about what you want to say, what type of storyteller you want to be. Most of my stories always have the MC come out of the ordeal better than when they went in (I don't like the MC to lose). but also, I think about emotion, and scene, I like to try and draw the reader into the scene before starting the screaming match that often comes out in my LW stories.

Last but not least, think about your erotic scenes and how they fit, I've read LW stories where it's all about sex, with the ex, with new lovers, where its consensual between everyone in a group. In my view, if you force the sex into your LW story, it loses a lot and the Trolls will pick up on that quickly. In my last couple of stories, I even spent some time looking for threads, pictures and even emotions that other people posted here in the forum to help me build the emotion in a scene.

I'm not sure that this helps you in what makes a popular LW story. But these are a few of the things as a LW author that I take into account :)

Posting anything in LW is like dancing in a minefield blindfolded. You're sure to get hurt, and often in a way you didn't expect. One I posted there got half a dozen ugly comments the first day but a score of 4.1. Another got one-bombed until it had 30 votes and a score of only 1.3.

Unless you have very thick skin, I recommend posting in any other category. Instead of trying to figure a safe way through the troll swamp of LW, just avoid it.

I briefly glanced at you "Why Do We Write LW Stories", and within the first paragraphs you captured the success formula to appeal to the trolls: It must be about betrayal and recovery to appease them.

It must somehow relate to "burn the bitch", revenge, or moving on while the cheater's life fails.

But that ignores the category definition as posted on the LitE stories page: "Married extra-marital fun: swinging, sharing & more."

Stories about cheating, betrayal, revenge, and failed lives hardly sound like fun, swinging, or sharing. And therein lies our issues with the trolls. They've usurped the whole category and 1-bomb with hateful comments anything which doesn't fit their new (in their own mind) definition of their favorite category.

There is no qualification one must pass to read a story in any category. Why people read stories, they know in advance they will not like amazes me. Why people vote a one without reading the story and brag that they didn't waste their time reading, they just voted it down, surprises me. It baffles me when someone cannot separate the author from the characters. I think compelling stories about adultery could be written. Hot, sexy, fun stories, with a shade of darkness and the pain adultery, caused if only one crafted it as such. But LW wouldn't like those stories any more than the others.

I’d say about every 20- 25 people who like one of m LW are women just from reading the profiles on the likes. Usually with the comment “I wish I’d been brave enough to do that.”
