Ace Combat Zero (OOC and Casting Call)

Well, I always figured that Yuktobania was always kinda eastern in tradition. I can edit out that post if you prefer. Basically its just something he does to help him think, exercise and all that. But I can come up with something else real fast if you prefer.

I don't see the problem with performing martial arts routines/exercises/meditations, but the swords thing does seem rather out-of-place. Maybe a bit of T'ai Chi Ch'üan instead?

I'm not quite sure it is eastern-Asian tradition. It is described as being a mix of Russia and its satellite countries during the Cold War, only without the Iron Curtain.

Kei Nagase, an Osean pilot, is Asian. This leads me to think that Osea is a mix of Europe, the USA, non-nazi Germany AND Japan.

But this is all in the Wiki, anyway, so if you guys want to draw inspiration for your characters, have a look there. The link is in the first post of this thread.

i'm amazed anyone knows about the Ch'üan variant

Tai Chi was the first thing to come to mind as an alternative martial art. I wasn't sure about the spelling and dropped by Wikipedia, where I found that particular designation.

Well, it didn't have to be Tai Chi, specifically... :p

some military organizations require Kendo as basic training, so i could understand them having the bamboo sword used in Kendo. I know most american police officers (at least in big cities) have to learn how to use one. I think Tai sticks would be a better choice for the police though, since they are so similar to tonfa batons...

In the Air Force? In a country that is like Russia? In a fictional world where war is the equivalent of what we would have if terrorism was not the usual tactic? Well...

You see, it's just... when people drag eastern elements into most RPGs, it is because of anime influences. Some people love it, some people hate it, and some people are fine with it. Thing is, Ace Combat is not quite the best place to draw a katana and start practicing your Kung-Fu. When I saw RedMageNeko whip out Japanese swords, I went into automatic "Japanese alert".

I'm fine with it if properly justified, don't misunderstand. But when people try to create the equivalent of Neo, or have to wear dark trenchcoats, or start whipping out swords in an SRP that has nothing at all to do with that kind of thing, without any half-thought justification at all, it raises concern.

It's fine. I COULD see some guy trained in some kind of martial art related to piloting fighter jets.

It's just that its standarization pretty much killed the attractive, and all it leaves you with is pimple-faced teenagers without a life trying to drag the things they like into an RPG that was never meant to include them.

Still, I'm fine with your character having that kind of skill/training. Seriously, I don't mind, and you don't have to delete or edit anything. In fact, I might have jumped to conclusions a bit too fast. I just got nervous about it.

Hehehe. I can understand why though. Honestly, I did kind of pluck that out of the air a little while ago, so I have no problem cutting it right back out.

Ok, it seems the game has kind of stalled a bit. Now, we could jump forwards in time to next morning, if you guys want. Personally, I'd give priority to Wyldfire's opinion, since her character was going to meet mine.

If we do the time jump, we can go on all at the same time. If you want, Wyldfire, we could open an alternative post for Miranda and Kayla to bump uglies and not stop the story from going on. Or we can assume Miranda didn't find her in her office and decided to apologize the next day.

Sorry to be a pain in the ass.

I'm a little over comitted at the moment, and this thread is one I've decided to cut back on. Work's warming up as we get closer to the summer silly season, and I really need to devote time to my sweetie and my friends as well.

So I'm going to bow out of this thread. It's got lots of talented writers, so I'm sure it'll do well without me. Thanks for having me guys!

Awww... pity you can't stay over to watch the fireworks...

Well, I will be posting the time jump tomorrow (23:35 here now) unless anyone has a problem with it.

That's fine with me. I'm ready anytime you guys are. And I JUST remembered why I thought Yukotobania was an Eastern Country.

In Ace Combat 5, I always thought that the base in the opening missions who's name I can't remember was in the Alaskan Island chain just from its positioning on the map. Yukotobanian craft always came overseas from the West, towards China, Japan, and Russia.

Course, I could be wrong about this. Its been nearly a year since I played and I really should rent it again.

Anyways, that's not important. I'm ready for whatever you throw at us boss lady.

To be more specific about locations, the warzone is that cluster of small countries between Osea and Usea. The named country closest to Wellow is Belka, and the third country going down from there is Ustio. The other two in-between are probably Sapin and Ratio.

I'll be posting today, as soon as I can squeeze in some willpower and free time from work.

Gagonthis has expressed his interest in joining us. I have offered him a place as Brigand Team's leader, which perhaps he'll take. That is still pending discussion.

Kaska, I suggest your scouting is not directly into the battlezone. That would blow Uriem's cover up, and expose him to Belkan investigating what an Ustian mercenary is doing so close to that battlefield.

Don't worry Kat, I saw that Luisa wasn't assigned to any of the groups in your mission, so I naturally assumed she was going to be elsewhere. She's just going to be flying around, ready to scream bloody murder if anything's amiss where she's been assigned.

It makes sense to have people in the air in other areas to make sure no one's taking advantage of a major operation in another sector, doesn't it? ;)

Name: Michaella Ivanova

Age: 26

Nationality: Belkan

Job: Pilot

Call Sign: Kaiserin

Personal Plane: SAAB JAS 39 Gripen

Appearance: Michaella is the classic "Belkan" seductress in appearance with her thick red hair, long legs, and blue eyes. In personality however she is as blunt as a Belkan bar brawler.

I hope this is okay. I thought it could be fun to play for the other side and maybe even get recruited by the squadron.

Sure thing! I don't see why not.

Perhaps it would be interesting if everybody played two characters, one for base and one for battle. But that would be putting an extra load on everybody's shoulders.

So, you can do that if you want. Everybody has that option.

I hope I'm not too annoying here:p.:D
