A sincere question about the number threads

Can someone please explain the interest in the number threads to me.

I happened to see that the "even numbers" thread had had over 19,000 posts and the "odd numbers" thread had over 37,000 posts.

I can understand the "word game" threads but I just can't understand why people would post just to count. I didn't post this question on those threads so as not to disturb the counting but I would love an answer if anyone has one.

Thank in advance.

I know. Some people actually have thousands of posts on those threads.

Thousands!

I just don't understand it.

I've never understood it either, I crunch numbers for a living so you'll never see me there. I suppose some use it to run their post total, as for those with lots of posts there...... search me. To each their own.

Hey Cathleen. I haven't seen you on the GB since the burst of posting over the HT cafe but it's nice to chat again.

I guess it is one way to get your post totals up and even meet people when you're new.

I was more curious about what the repeat posters got out of it.

Btw, I have a thread on the GB about the Christo art exhibit in Central Park with pics if you enjoy that sort of thing.

Hi Zip, thanks for mentioning your thread - I do like that kind of thing.

I have wondered about those threads more then a few times too and I know some of the folks that are repeat posters - so I better keep my mouth shut (for once).

I hadn't been around much just after the hullabaloo of the 'how to cafe', but have had more time for Lit recently.

I hope you're doing well and thanks again for mentioning your thread, I'm on my way now. Please feel free to call me Cate, or any number of other variations - I seem to answer to anything. ;)

Just thought I'd pop in and say hi Cate...don't see ya around much these days, hope all is well with you.

And a hello to DLL & Zip

And I have no idea why the numbers thread...aside from getting your post count up quickly....other than that?????

I think and this is only my opinion, that it actually is used to help the newbies up their post counts for avs and to help others when they are trying to reach a goal such as a thousand for a custom of title.

I guess with this new format all that will become redundant.
It will be interesting to see how the post numbers go.

I think there is probably a bit of chat that goes on too.

I've always wondered, too, but I don't think there is a real answer.
