Yes - there's more to Scotland than golf and skirts. They also make some mighty fine booze.

Dewar's 12-Year-Old Special Reserve - $40
It's a prelude to a malt, which means it's a bit more dramatic than a regular bottle of Dewer's. The smoky flavor makes it a great gift idea for special drinkers in the family and you know, nothing brings a family together like scotch. You might ask, "What about love?" Just a reason to drink more scotch I say! http://www.dewars.com

Johnnie Walker Gold Label - $60
A blend of 15 scotches creates Gold Label's soft rainwater taste. The smooth honey finish is ideal for those who like to sip. You don't have 60 bucks to blow on this scotch? Simply buy 15 bottles of single-malt and mix them. Then enjoy! http://www.johnniewalker.com

Glenmorangie 15 Years Old - $50
Hints of the sea grass that grows along the coast where Glenmorangie is aged mean it's like you can practically taste the ocean in the bottle. It's a perfect aperitif! (The word aperitif means "a beverage that arouses hunger." And the word hunger means "desire for more scotch." http://www.glenmorangie.com

Aberlour A'bunadh - $60
Unfiltered to keep the scotch's original cask strength, a'bunadh is strong at 120 proof. Add some water to reveal the subtle, warm, yet spicy flavor of the drink. (An average proof of scotch is around 80, which is why a'bunadh is one of my favorites. Do I have to spell it out for you? I'm talking about 40 more proofs!) http://www.aberlour.com

Laphroaig 30 Years Old - $320
This slightly mediciney scotch has a taste that hints of a backyard barbecue. A splash of water unveils a subtle oak flavor. Nothing tastes as good as oak, except maybe bacon. And 320 bucks would buy an awful lot of bacon, unless it's extremely expensive bacon. http://www.laphroaig.com

well, there's an American who knows his shit...:)

If you're all evil 'n' shit, Dill, why aren't you touting demon rum?

LK, bet he's just in a Scotchy mood...

Next thing ya know, some girl will be asking about his tackle and his kilt...

He has a fine kilt, someplace, but I've never seen anybody tackle him.

He's damn near always in a Scotchy mood, that's why I figure he can't be this evil incarnate defiler/corrputer he's reputed to be by some.

It's probably all a front

How can one be in the proper frame of mind for defiling and corrupting when imbibing that fine a beverage? I would like to see for myself what those 40 extra proofs taste like!

Dill baby, you spelled your links wrong. Don't make me go after you. :p

Bourbon or scotch? Which is better.

I'm sure they both have their advantages.

Depends on your mood is all. Bourban is a bit richer, more caramelly. Single malts are an acquired taste - especially the ones heavily processed through peat.

Yes I do. Maker's Mark. Knob's Creek. We can go on a Bourbon binge.

Have you tried Maker's Mark with fresh mint leaves in it? Most excellent.

My bourbon selection is quite limited. I'm damned lucky to have access to Mark.

I wouldn't know where to get fresh mint leaves. Not a clue. And that would entail drinking it straight, wouldn't it?

You're supposed to drink it straight! Maybe a splash of water and some ice cubes.

Fresh mint - at your grocery store. Or do what I do, grow it.

Let me amend that.

A GOOD single malt should always be served straight up. No ice. A tiny splash of water to bring out the flavor.

The grocery store. HA!!! That's a good one.

And anyway, I dilute my bourbon with coke. Lots of it. I should be spanked for that. Yes?

That's sacriligeous. You're ruining a good bouron - especially if you're drinking the Mark. There are places you'd be lyched for even suggesting such a thing

You might as well just put rotgut in your coke.

I can't drink it otherwise. And it does improve the Coke immeasurably.

Well - I guess it will improve a coke - but you need to try, babe. The proper way to drink scotch or bourbon or whiskey is with water on the side, not mixed. You can try it with a coke on the side. Pour a little bit of Maker's Mark in a glass - SIP - then drink some coke... work your way up slowly till you can drink it straight.

Don't worry, despite rumours to the contrary, it WILL NOT put hair on your chest.
