I went for a ride again today. There were a few errands that needed to be done and I could do them on the bike. The wind was blowing out of the south again and once again I dealt with them. Traffic was light and I dealt with the winds with no problems.
I finished up the errands and was getting ready to head for home when it hit me. I wanted to ride. I pulled out my cell and called the wife. I told her I had finished the errands but I wasn't finished riding. I could hear her sigh over the phone then she told me to have fun but to be careful.
I was smiling to myself as I pulled on my helmet and fired up the bike. I knew where I wanted to go. I headed south for a ways before heading East and pulling onto Palm Beach Island. I rode that at the posted 30 MPH and watched the Bikini Clad Babes as the wandered around in the warm air. (It made it to 83 degrees here today.) I glanced at my Trip Odometer and saw it was at 50 miles so I pulled into a gas station. (No Fuel Gauge, you guestimate it by you mileage.)I topped off the tank then headed a bit west and north to catch what's called the Beeline Highway.
The Beeline heades north and west and runs at 60 MPH. Traffic on it runs at about 65 MPH so I let the bike run. Because thw winds were out of the south it made it a bit more comfortable and I was having fun.
I pulled off on a marked two lane road and headed roughly East. I knew roughly where I was, in Martin County. It took me a while but I finally hit the coast and Route 1 South. Off I went enjoying the road and the views even as I regretted not having my camera. Finally I entered Palm Beach County again. Now I was in areas I knew. Still it took me a while to get home.
When I finally got home I checked my watch and my odomoeter. It took a bit of adding but I finally figured it out. I had been on the bike for nearly two hours and had covered a bit over 100 miles. Talk about a blast.
I still have a bit less than half a tank of gas and the weather tomorrow should be okay in the morning. I'm hoping to get in another ride even if it's a short one.
