What inspires you to think outside the box and broaden your horizons? What must you do to mind fuck yourself?

I went through a period of time when I felt like I was streaching the boundaries of my thought process... I was seeing the world around me in the third person and asking myself just how I wanted the story to develop next. I find that particular time to be one of the better moments of my life... and it was inspired by constant stimuli - college paired with new experiences.
