The idea that this country, among all countries, has to IMPORT Covid is off-the-charts stupid. We've had more cases than practically anywhere else since the spring of 2020, we have no national mitigation measures, and an absurdly low vaccination rate in too many areas. What the hell did people think was going to happen?
Having said that, we're probably a lot closer to our Delta peak than people realize, even considering the reopening of schools. The much lower rate of testing lately suggests we've been way undercounting the number of cases, which means we're probably getting pretty close to herd immunity in certain locales (when you factor in vaccinations and those immune from an earlier case). Missouri, which got hit hard from Delta early (right after Memorial Day), has seen its number of new cases become fairly stable since the beginning of the month.

BTW, the exploding Covid numbers in Arte's Texas hometown have caused the local boosters to postpone until further notice the "Meet The Team" event that precedes football season, which locally is about on the equivalent level of disbelief as closing the casinos in Las Vegas.

No one is saying it has to. All we, and the Border Patrol are saying, is that it is, right across the southern border in huge numbers. Right now doctors are saying the US has about 85% herd immunity. The planned invasion could change that number.

One of the key factors that identifies Fascism is the blaming of minorities for the problems those in charge create. For the Nazis...it was the Jews and other "non-pure" bloods. The range for herd immunity from Covid19 Alpha is 60 to 75%. So a person can say that the US is 85% toward herd immunity from Alpha. Covid19 Delta has a much higher R factor, which means the range for herd immunity is closer to 90%.

He's not saying what the needed herd immunity is. He's saying what the actual one is...which is not true.
Numbers I have on full vaccination rates for Israel are 59.9%
