pope says everyone needs to get vaccinated

VATICAN CITY, Aug 18 (Reuters) - Pope Francis issued an appeal on Wednesday urging people to get inoculated against COVID-19, saying the vaccines could bring an end to the pandemic, but needed to be taken by everyone.

"Thanks to God's grace and to the work of many, we now have vaccines to protect us from COVID-19," the pope said in a video message made on behalf of the nonprofit U.S. group the Ad Council and the public health coalition COVID Collaborative.

"They grant us the hope of ending the pandemic, but only if they are available to all and if we work together."

Pope Francis was himself vaccinated in March, saying at the time that it was an ethical obligation.

"Vaccination is a simple but profound way of promoting the common good and caring for each other, especially the most vulnerable. I pray to God that everyone may contribute their own small grain of sand, their own small gesture of love," the pope said in his latest video message.

6000 people didn't die in the US in June 2021, the number is only 342. It's only the 7th leading cause of death in the US in June.

NZ has been in lockdown for a week, and the cases are piling up.
And their economy was already in a shitter due to prior lockdowns /border tightening.

You can't equate all countries, there are so many variables:
--- accounting for MZ's succesful lockdowns: small country with a low density of popullation, conformist/rule-abiding /goverment-trusting popullation (baaah!)
--- for it's economy tanking: small country, tourism-based industry
Nevertheless. Jacinda, the poster girl for successful control of the virus. FAILED.


But I'm starting to be fed up and to gradually understand Republicans.

Despite the VERY drastic approaches worldwide (lockdowns, travel restrictions), we're back to square one: you get reinfected with covid even after the 2nd pfizer jab, there are two new strains.
Plus the West's economies are in the shtter.
The only entities that thrived through this crisis are billionaires and China.

But the stupidity
The Republicans are only pushing us closer ro single payer

Every day i see the death numbers from the previous 24 hours and cant help but think .. another 1000 dead trumpers

If the numbers continue.. even at half
It will make a huge difference at the next presidential election

The people tbat refuse the vaccine are mostly die hard trumpers
So 4 years. 1000 a day ... natural selection doing its job

And yet, when you look at the breakdowns,
the dead are generally not white Trumpers
but the minorities who both vote Democrat
and do not trust big government...


So, there you are, hoisted upon your own purely partisan political petard.
 
More people died of heart disease than of covid. Yet, people aren't generally wetting their pants over going in McDonalds.

If we (the "royal" we) were really concerned about public health, we'd attack the biggest killers first.

I am just a cna from a major nyc hospital who worked every day during the shutdowns.. 7 days a week 12 to 20 hours shifts

and know that what I just stated is true.

Yeah, sorry, I like you an' all but that's a load of bullshit. They had heart disease and would have continued living in a managed condition but covid 19 made it unmanageable and they died. To say they died of heart disease is not only massively inaccurate but it's a gross oversimplification of comorbidities.

Secondly, you see how asshats reacted to being asked to wear a mask - you think they're going to give up their BigMac and fries?? We know the corporate level folks like us eating cheap foods they can profiteer from.

Seriously.
