The absolute main function of a vaccine is to reduce severe reaction to disease. These vaccines are proven to be highly effective in doing that. Infection spread is also reduced, though that is only a secondary function. The flu vaccine is a good example of this...it is typically about 40% effective in reducing spread, but 80-90% effective in reducing severe reactions. If those vaccinated and infected aren't in the hospital, the vaccine is working.
