50 ways to write about sex acts

Not to beat a dead horse here, but to whom were you addressing this?
Ahhh... to anyone new to writing in the genre or anyone whom was finding that their depiction of sexual content was becoming dissatisfied with how there sex scenes were all taking the same "ho hum" path, there was one member whom was having just this difficulty and posting on the matter several days ago. I just thought I'd throw out an idea I have used in fiction writings myself before now.

Deepest respects, as always,

It's only about the physical feelings of sex when you write for a man. When sex is written for a woman, it's emotion, emotion, and emotions.
My dear Millie, I have no wish to start a disagreement but I feel I must say that when I, as a red-blooded straight male, have sex everything goes into it. I am, by nature a one woman man and when I am with my lady she knows, I make sure she knows, that she has all of me - physical as well as emotional.

Now, if we are speaking strictly about the act of writing it then I believe men will find it extremely difficult to write a coherent and believable lesbian tale since they can never have experienced the true nature of that love and that type of emotional contact. Similarly, is it possible for a lifelong lesbian to write about having sex with a man? (Would they even wish to?)

It’s possible to write many things - even those outside your own direct experience - with empathy, observation, imagination, extrapolation, and a little thought.

At the risk of getting a little too sciencey, I think if you spend more time elaborating the potential energy of sex (tension) the kinetic parts (action) fall into place more easily.

OP, there was an earlier round of this topic at https://forum.literotica.com/threads/avoiding-repetition-when-describing-sex.1572158/ which might give some further ideas. I think I remember speaking to the issue as similar to organic chemistry, simple atoms, near infinite possibilities.
Thank you Yowser,
I think I will go and have a look at that thread.
I have been mulling this over (not the herb kind) and I have descended deeper into the subject.

Let's look, if we may, at potential scenarios...
1) A Victorian era gentleman and a street whore in his handsome cab.
2) A bored out of her suburban mind seventies housewife.
3) A high powered 90's female executive
4) A futuristic human, cybernetically enhanced engaged in hazardous work environments.
5) A human/non-human interaction on a far flung planet in a far flung future

Surely we must accept that the "act" will vary somewhat between scenarios or is it simply all in the scene setting and world building? The lead up, so to speak?

Curious,
D.

I believe it is possible to write anything...
Jules Vern had no knowledge of submarines, or rocket ships....
Has anybody actually flown a star fighter?
Has anybody ever seen an Alien???
No, of course not, but some of the greatest stories ever written include all of the above.
If the story is approached respectfully, and the writer has an open mind...
Then anything is possible....
I've read in this very forum that most of the popular gay male novels are penned by women...
If as a human being you are prepared to open up and embrace the concept of your subject matter, anything is possible.

Only my opinion though.

"suggestions for writers on how to write sex differently each time".
Seems dull.

Digging out the ol' thesaurus to find new ways of describing acts most readers are very opinionated on how the *should* be described goes sideways quickly. (and veers into unintended comedy for which I am eternally grateful)

Sex is a total experience. Think on it like you would the great meals of your life.

The mechanics of getting through the meal are much the same but there's a wealth of factors that come into play that are far more interesting and give a lot more colors to paint with.

Is this a special occasion? Have you been looking forward to this forever or was it ducking into to a little bistro on a lark? Why is this time different? Accomplished chef that's honed the classics to stand out or some molecular gastronomy that changes the very nature of the food in question?

And how about the diners? Are they starving, peckish, could eat but maybe need some courting?

And do they know how to act? Are they dressed for the occasion? Can they properly use all the utensils of a multi-course sumptuous feast or just *think* they know how?

On the macro, it's still the same ol' same ol' most of us do everyday to turn resources into energy and nutrition.

But the micro is where the human experience lives. All the questions, the uncertainties, the nuance, which is what gives readers something to engage with.

Chasing down more novel ways of describing old standards has always seemed like trying to chase down crazy rare ingredients with excessively long pedigrees as if it's some guarantee the meal (experience) can't otherwise fail.

Often, it's all about the people and what it all means to them that elevates even a humble provincial dish into a life affirming reader experience.

Sharing those things of your characters, the background, the psychologies, the hopes, fears, nostalgia, etc. etc., goes further than trying to win a sex descriptions arms race.

Verne never wrote about rockets, either. His spaceship was fired out of a giant cannon.

Totally disagree. Unless you are reading stuff written by the emotional equivalent of an eleven year old.
I don't read '... stuff written by the emotional equivalent of an eleven year old'.

My comment was written to share my revised thoughts on the discussion, not as an opening for insults.

My thoughts were worth two cents as I wrote in my post.

Are yours worth a whit more to me or anyone else in this thread?

I’m sorry. Obviously only your opinions are relevant. My mistake. I can only apologize for calling out a flagrant and untrue trope. I’ll try to be a better person.

If you are free to state what you think, I’m free to disagree with it. That’s how it works.

It's obvious you don't bother carefully and thoughtfully reading the posts here.

From my first post, I said my thoughts were worth two cents, like everyone else's; no more or less important.

Your opinion of your own post over mine seems to suggest your's carries more weight than mine. So who between us thinks 'only your opinions are relevant'?

I'm weary of your nonsense.

I like to focus on what's going on in their heads as much as the actual physical side. Is she inexperienced thinking about the new sensation or a 40 year old housewive thinking the ceiling needs painting again. Similarly match the action to their experience, a slut might get banged standing up in a club toilet while a couple of virgins will be like 2 planks of wood sliding over each other.

So glad you asked!!! :)

Sorry to sound dense, but. Simple erotica differs how????
Erotica is a genre...
If you meant somebody merely describing a sex act, then that is still erotica. Simply more focused on the act.
Yep, that's a pretty good start on the definition of "simple erotica." It focuses on sex (but not necessarily the sex act), not on plot and character. But the added quality I want to lift up is a way to distinguish it from a "stroker" is that a lot of care is taken with the technical aspects of the writing. It's not a litany of acts.

If you want to know more about "simple erotica", here's a thread.

Me personally, I don't enjoy those types of story. I read for enjoyment, if in doing so, I am aroused, titillated then YAY!!! But I don't read to masturbate...
I need rich characters to draw me in. There has to be depth to the plot, a flow a cadence. There must be a reason to turn the page. Intrigue, drams, a character I have come to love, or perhaps hate.
That is merely my preference.
Yes, that's fine. Most of the authors here in AH aim to please folks like you.
There are of course many other readers who read solely for the arousal, the release... I do not seek to deny them that. I do not discriminate. I don't think that a longer more carefully written saga is better. It is merely better for me, because, as stated. That is my preference.
No problem.

Damn, these days AH is truly thriving! I remember the times when we needed Tilan to pick a fight with someone. ;)
