Lovely scan, that… you’ve kept a lot of detail in the shadows!https://i.postimg.cc/FKbY0dh2/53618714995-3ae56b6df2-c.jpg
From the last night in Arctic Norway earlier this year... the equinox neared, the daylight increased by almost 15 minutes every 24 hours... snow storms had blasted across, the weather changing quickly. Then this, the sun over the harbour, whispering "you've made it through winter". It was a good time to have Kodak Ektar in my trusty 35mm camera.
The lab scanned them (i make some adjustments where needed after)... it's more the film, it has a good range - not for nothing is Kodak so loved. Had a film recently that would have ruined this as the range was so limited. I try and use Kodak (especially Ektar) for the good holiday scenes as it just works and I can get away with slightly messing up the settingsLovely scan, that… you’ve kept a lot of detail in the shadows!![]()
I used to shoot Fuji Velvia in the analogue days… a pretty unforgiving emulsion! The lab scanned them (i make some adjustments where needed after)... it's more the film, it has a good range - not for nothing is Kodak so loved. That's the slide film? Slide film IS unforgiving. I shot one roll of Ektachrome up in Norway and the shots weren't great as the light went. Get it right with slide film and it is amazing. Fuji Superior was/is a good negative film, but they stopped the 200iso and i prefer lower speed film.I used to shoot Fuji Velvia in the analogue days… a pretty unforgiving emulsion!![]()
I used to love the discipline of shooting Velvia 50... I mainly shot landscapes, so the slow speed made one consider framing and exposure pretty accurately. Quite a mindful exercise! That's the slide film? Slide film IS unforgiving. I shot one roll of Ektachrome up in Norway and the shots weren't great as the light went. I love slide as each frame is a perfect little image. Wish i could find a way to mount the "positives" to show them off. It's too expensive now to mess about with really, but for special occasions... oof, yeah!
(apologies for the geeky film talk)
YES! It's the same with film in general... medium format especially, you have 12 shots (well, my MF travel camera does). My first tip up the north of Norway i worked out where the shots would be taken, so i could be sheltered when changing the roll... then shot an extra one and ended up on an exposed beach trying to re-load!I used to love the discipline of shooting Velvia 50... I had a plastic twin-lens Lomo MF camera that cost about £35 back then... had a bit of fun with it, but only put a couple of rolls of Velvia through it. Now that was mindful photography!YES! I used Velvia years ago, when i first got back into film. Slide film was mainly cross processed then as it was cool - it looks good, but it was a bit of a waste! then again, no one wanted slide film anyway. Now Kodak have got Ektachrome back you can get E6 processing and see what slide film should be.
35mm isn't too bad (£40 for film and developing - so about £1 a shot) but Medium Format... press that shutter wisely!
oof, not much in the way of adjusting! Had a fair share of Lomo cameras, some are ok, but overpriced new. Settled on a Zeiss Ikon Nettar medium format for most things, especially travel. It was given to me, but you can get them silly cheap. It's worked everywhere i have taken it, included stupid cold conditions.I had a plastic twin-lens Lomo MF camera that cost about £35 back then... had a bit of fun with it, but only put a couple of rolls of Velvia through it.
