I don't understand why you have to defend yourself. If that idea held true that Cheyenne shouldn't buy the tv because of Katrina, then we should all not buy anything except meat, bread, eggs and milk. One pair of shoes per two years, one pair of pants, one shirt, two changes of knickers and a jumper for the winter. The rest of our money should go to people all over the world who need food, clothing and shelter.

I don't think anybody is going to do that.

She's got the money, let her buy the fucking tv without having to hear your mouth.
I don't think Marxist expected the comments he got in this thread. He thought all of you would jump on his bandwagon and comment negatively on my tv purchase.

You're correct, however. I don't think most sane people will give away all that they have and live like a pauper.

Seems to me the thread is a personal attack and for no reason at all. People can spend as they wish, what is important to one may not be to another. Personal preferences are just that - personal. I would not care to spend that amount on a TV but maybe I would want to spend it on a music system. There is no morality on this issue, just personal preference.

Cheyenne, enjoy your TV.

Throw away your money if you want to, the set will last 7 years tops.

...a really nice $1500 table model and $1500 for New Orleans relief?

It's amazing to me that someone could spend that kind of money on a vulgar luxury item while other Americans are spending another night sleeping in their own shit.

And of course under the Soviet Marxist regime everyone had money to spend on whatever they wanted to as well...right?

Wow! You must watch a LOT of TV if you'd wear out 60,000 hours of screen life in 7 years!

Dead 7 year olds?

..

Yeah, I don't actually know what we're discussing here.
Hell if I know! To sum it up, the tv should last much longer than 7 years with a 60,000 hour life. I'm not sure why the one poster thinks it will last only 7 years.

Well.. technically speaking, it will "only" last seven years.. non-stop..

Then my comment was still correct- he must watch a LOT of tv for it to only last 7 years with a 60,000 hour life.

In this place the set is left on non-stop, the utility has to make money somehow.

I turn the set off and 5 minutes later someone has it on in a empty livingroom.

I think a DVD player in the bedroom is cool for those naughty times 2 are playing.

I have to say, I honestly can't understand you paying that amount.. the thing will devalue just like that *clicks fingers* ..I'm obviously not having a go.. but honestly, don't you just feel awfull watching that amount of money disappear? I know I would.. you coulda gone on a holiday! I guess I don't understand why people value that extra bit of definition or space tv-wise for so much.. I'd never spend more than £250.

umm...well...let me just say my two cents....
I spend a lot of time keeping up on electronics...and first off, electronics aren't like cars they don't devalue (or depreciate to those accountants out there) the second they leave the stores...as a matter of fact, a quality television holds it's value pretty well. 1 and 2 year used sets are known to go for 80+% of their original cost when the set was quality to begin with. Home electronics are often of the "you get what you pay for" variety. pay less, mostly get crap, pay more, more often to not get crap.

And in the end...just so you know, you can always tell what a company thinks of their own product. The longest factory warranty out there on standard retail televisions is 1 year. Not too many companies doing that anymore. If I'm not mistaken, in the states it's only Toshiba and Mitsubishi (which doesn't make picture tubes anymore despite that the 40" I have in my bedroom still gets rated as the best picture tube ever made, go figure on that)...the standard parts and labor warranty on almost every other brand is 1 year parts 30-90 days labor....what does that tell you? in about 90 days they expect someone to have to work on your tv.

Samsung is 1 year, full warranty. If anything goes wrong, I call the store I bought it from and they come to check it out at my house. They are known for their good customer service, it's one of the reasons I purchased there.

How dare you buy something for yourself when there are people suffering in this world? You should give up all your worldly possessions to help those in need.

And then we'll get you on the recipient list for the next round of charitable donations.

Marxist can't see this since he's gotten rid of his internet connection, given his computer to the local Red Cross (It's AB-), and is eating bugs and roots gathered in the back yard.
