I figure it goes without saying that this third night of the convention was my favorite - which is saying a lot..

Too many individual moments to listt: Amanda Gorman’s poem was amazing, but as speeches go: Wes Moore, Pete Buttigieg, Oprah, Bill Clinton and Hakeem Jeffries all were in the running for my favorite of the night… until Tim “coach” Walz stepped up and fired up the team.

Tim Walz is worthy.

I couldn’t find anything that explains the function of the criminal courts for incest rape cases. People refusing to press charges for rape and incest surely complicates things.

Cleaning up the mess is not SCOTUS’s fault. Putting the responsibility on legislators is in my opinion the correct approach. Legislators need to legislate the will of the people. When citizens grow tired of their politicians they’ll vote them out. A national referendum needs to be debated by congress but unfortunately tribalism stops many good legislative agendas. Congress need to separate itself from party loyalty and back to representing their constituents. Leaders of each party have way too much power. Majority leaders can block good ideas like what Schumer did to HR-2 and McConnell with an up and down vote on Garland and Reed with the nuclear option. imho

The founding fathers did see there were events that could happen they did not know about. The build in the ability to change The Constitution to make corrections but did make it difficult. We need to change it to:
1 Eliminate the electoral college and strengthen voting safeguards.

The Democratic National Convention again surpassed its Republican counterpart in viewership numbers Tuesday night, with an average of more than 20 million Americans tuning in compared to the RNC’s 14 million on its second night—a nearly 39% difference.

The event even garnered roughly 500,000 more viewers than its first night—a historical anomaly, according to Nielsen data.

I've never watched the Democratic Convention (or any party's) before, and missed a lot of the first night's... but you can be sure we had Tuesday and Wednesday's events on for the duration, and will again tonight. What enthusiasm, built on joy and hope and decency

The highlight of last night, for me, was Tim's son's reactions to his dad's speech. "That's my dad!"

You just can't get more wholesome than that.
The contrast between Kamala and Tim's families and those of trump and vance couldn't be broader and I know which appeals most to me.

another p.s regarding Shapiro's mannerisms during his speech: Perhaps this IS his normal way he has about him but since I read on here about how he seems so much to be copying the delivery of President Obama, it's hard not to see it! Where it feels authentic for Obama, I couldn't watch Shapiro without feeling he was 'acting Obama' and that may be a sad misjudgment but it's there

I enjoyed how Oprah spoke directly to the 'undecideds'

and how Michelle O addressed the 'Goldilocks' voters—those who demand everything is 'just right' before they'll cast their ballot for Kamala... no candidate will ever be 'perfect' in everyone's eyes, and how withholding their votes hurts themselves and could ultimately affect the outcome of what will be a very tight election.

Kudos to Bernie, Hakeem Jeffries, and to all the candidates for Kamala's VP making speeches... Pritzker, Pete B, Wes Moore (great speech, great energy!), and just about everyone else.

Chuck Schumer... bless his heart. I don't doubt his political abilities, but his 'embarrassing grandad' delivery shows he's really not great at this kind of big speech event.

I had a little trouble following Tim’s speech for a moment because…er…there was something in my eye…after Tim’s son expressed his admiration and love for his dad.

Kamala has rocked the “Tan Suit” before, and many have speculated that it’s a nod to Obama. (A tan power suit: Who knew???)

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.



Seriously though: Josh Shapiro was in full politician mode and had a mission to do. Some of that "act" was over the top for effect. I would add, Barack Obama has lifted his style of presentation from others as well: He sometimes goes into "full-on preacher mode" and I find his pauses to be Bill Clinton-esque. (and Bill Clinton lifted his speaking style from preachers as well, imho.)

You want to see someone behave super odd when speaking??? Just watch Mike Pence attempt to channel JFK, Reagan, G.H.W. Bush, G.W. Bush, Bill Clinton, Al Gore, and Obama - ALL AT THE SAME TIME!!!



I have never seen a politician with such a strange presentation style. Al Gore was kinda weird, but he was fairly original (Al Gore attempted to talk like a preacher at times as well, imho

David Brooks, during the PBS political team’s analysis of Tim Walz’ introduction and speech, put it perfectly, imho: David Brook said something to the effect of: “Tim Walz’ introduction and speech was like a Norman Rockwell painting come to life.

Having grown up in the Midwest, I can tell you that Tim Walz is Midwest Americana on a plate. I don’t know if he fully grasps the more diverse aspects of America, but he is obviously open to / tolerant of them. Meanwhile, President Kamala Harris, Secretary Pete Buttigieg, Hakeem Jeffries, AOC, etc, all provide a future administration with a full grasp of diversity in America, while Tim Walz provides his lived experience to help those others fully grasp the Midwest "white bread" aspects of America.

That ^ is a well rounded team. Tim Walz was an excellent choice.
