The 2021 story category winners have been announced. Congratulations to everyone who won and was nominated!

I won for my story Teddy Bear in the Toy category. After 5 years and 8 months of writing and 51 stories published, it's my first contest win of any kind. It's fun especially because that was one of my most enjoyable, and most daft, stories to write. I wrote it with the attitude that I was going to write something completely nuts and if people liked it that would be a plus.

I'm mindful of the fact it received a grand total of 11 votes in the contest. Nothing to get a big head about. Still, we take our laurels as they come. 11 votes are more than the number 2 story received.

Congratulations to the winners!

I was pleased to be a runner-up in Humor and Satire.

That is more appropriate than one year when I was nominated for 'Most Influential Poet'?

Congratulations! I really enjoyed Teddy Bear, it was a cute story.

I was honored just to be nominated in the Mature category. Congratulations to everyone else who won, too.

Congratulations, Simon, long overdue. You deserve some big head for your achievement.

Well, my story must have been better than I thought it was to beat yours.

Congratulations to all the nominated stories. I am very grateful to everyone who voted for White Castle Christmas in the Humor and Satire category.

Congrats to the winners! Where can I see who won in each category? I’ve had a look around and not seen it. Does anyone have a link?
I found it easier to google: 'Literotica Reader's Choice Awards Winners 2021' to see the results.

I usually google to find any challenge and contest results. Especially since things like challenge results are hard to find on the contest thread.

Good one, Simon!!!!!

I didn't even know this was a thing so I never voted, but congrats to the winners! (And now I know to watch for next year's as I have a feeling I'll have a few new friends to cheer on in different categories.)

You are not alone! It's really easy to miss this, and I often forget about this contest. I didn't even know I was nominated until EB posting about the contest and I decided to check and found out I was in the lead.

That's probably why the views are so few.

Yep, it's not the greatest reader turn-out vote wise, and one can clearly see the main lobby groups. But hey, I got a second place which is actually contributing to a trickle through on the story, so it's a bit like finding a ten cent coin on the floor. Nice, but no coffee!

Congrats, always good to see people from the forum come away with something.

As for the two main awards, at this point those two can be penciled in every year. EB mentioned lobbying groups, its pretty much like that in some categories.

You'll never see more user ID's with only one post in any other place.

Sorry, but the post count thing irritates me.

Once you start digging into those single and double digit post users, you start seeing members who have been here for years, have been active on the story side comment boards, and even have large numbers of published stories. ( 40+ for one I looked up from this year's nominations who has fewer than 20 posts on the forum. )

Even when you look at the single post users who signed up for the awards, you see members who then become active with large favorite lists, comments, etc.

People are pointed here by authors and other fans when the awards start up. It's as simple as that. Most start using their accounts to store favorites and make comments afterward, some start using the forum, and some just make their nominations and go back to being anonymous — but the latter is the minority.

Post count is not and has never been meaningful when it comes to award nominations.

Anyway...

Congrats to the winners :) I had one in there, but it was never even a contest. Blown away from the start and the gap only got wider as time went on. Considering the winner obviously put a lot of blood, sweat, and tears into the work and I spent a couple of hours on mine, it was plenty fair. LOL

I'm curious, seriously: I have no idea what you are talking about. What do you mean by "post count"? I have no idea what "single and double digit post users" are.

I'm probably being very thick-headed, and it wouldn't be the first time, but I truly have no idea what you are saying in this post.

Speaking for myself, by the time I realized my story was in the running, which occurred after EB started a thread on this contest a few weeks ago, I had 10 of the 11 votes that I ultimately received. I don't recall "signing up" for anything. I had no say at all in the contest. I suspect for many it's the same way.

5 years ago I placed second in the BDSM category for 2016, and it was the same way. I had no idea the story had been nominated until I saw it getting an unusual number of views and decided to try to find out why.

Same for me. I had no idea my story was nominated in Mature, until another author sent me an email congratulating me on my story being picked.

I don't think he was talking about the voting for individual stories by category. I think he was referring to the nomination posts for the special categories. Most Influential Writer, Sexiest Female Character, etc.

And you have to keep in mind that the AH is really just one small subset of Literotica writers. There's little cliques of Lit writers who discuss things between themselves but you don't see any of that here on Literotica, but it does influence what happens with award voting and things like that.

There are a lot of Lit authors who promote their stories on Twitter who have never posted on the forums. That’s probably true on other social media platforms as well.

Yes indeedy. I use Facebook myself, as well as MeWe, and I have a lot of readers who are FB friends. I really do wish Literotica had a better interface to allow author interaction with readers, but it is what it is. Even Wattpad doesn't really have that, and I haven't found Wattpad to be that great at bringing in readers so I don't waste time their anymore.

Facebook on the other hand, has brought me quite a few new readers. I get a lot of crossover from all my FB political / military posts, which connect me to a different audience than I hit directly on Literotica. And that has an impact on voting, because I can do a FB post, link back to Lit, and get responses. I don't bother for competitions and awards tho, I don't really see that as fair to everyone else and really, the only thing I'm interesting in is attracting views and readers.

And yes, I know there are FB and Twitter groups out there, I'm in one or two myself, and they're fun, and useful too.

What type of interface or tools do you think would help authors to better communicate with their readers? We're aware of the need for onsite messaging between members (which will eventually replace private feedback, currently going directly to email). What do you think would be helpful to authors in addition to that?

Thank you. :D

Post count as in someone voting/nominating with only one post. Now of course if someone was here anon, but their fav author is lobbying in an authors note or on their bio for a vote, they may create an account just to vote, hence one post. That's the 'pure' explanation.

Unfortunately, because of how easy things are here to manipulate and all the prior gaming that has gone one, a one post user ID screams alt. If you chose to, you could create a few handles and vote for yourself, how would anyone know?

So whether RR gets upset about it or not, there's plenty of cause for suspicion, especially in the more prominent awards. These are contests and like any contest here there has been drama. Some of which is the argument that chapters shouldn't be allowed to win because they're not stories.

The end result of that was multiple promises they would change it, then never did and now declare any post in the contest threads complaining will be deleted. That's how they solve concerns here, Lies or ignoring them as you're seeing first hand with the fav list issue. Now maybe you can see my point when I talk about the apathy here.

Know what would be helpful? Fixing or at least acknowledging the top list issue. Fix something before running around trying to come up with new things.
