2003 Survivor Discussion Thread

Did you submit it as normal as well, or did you only email it, text and audio both?

if you submitted it normally, you should be able to see if it's still pending or if it's been rejected.

if you didn't submit it normally, I suggest that you do so, and e-mail the audio again, with "AUDIO FOR 'poemtitle' BY POLITESUCCUBUS" as the title...

In the notes in the submission I suggest you say "I emailed the audio to 'emailyousentitto' "

Okay, this may seen dumb, but what are the requiremnts for Novellas.

Hell, if not for the bro-ha-ha over poetry, I may not even know there was a word limit for short stories.

I don't know if there's an official word count for novellas, but from what I've seen people consider it about 20,000 words or so

Is it too late to be included in this year's contest? Don't know where I'll stand, but it does sound like fun. Read through this thread, and think most of my questions are answered - now if only I can get my head to stop spinning!

Join Us!

Anyone can join right up to the very last day is my understanding.

In fact, the more the merrier. Just remember you can only count what was accepted on Lit between 1-1-03 and 12-31-03. You can't claim any immunities that have been posted, and you should tell Chicklet what your number for the lottery is before the next drawing just in case your number get's drawn.

So far I've got 25 points, 4 from immunities. I'm working on two stories right now, and waiting to see if my audio poem will get posted or if I need to do a new one.

It's really making me reach as a writer, as I don't normally think about fetishs or bondage etc, let alone write about them. But my confidence is growing. :D This is the perfect format, I think, to grow as a writer before tackling that big project and trying to get someone to pay you to publish your book!

Take care and hope to see you competeing soon!

welcome, SexyC = ) Happy to have you aboard.

The next immunity drawing is wed. You don't have to participate, but if you'd like to, your number is due by midnight tomorrow. (for this week)

i'll take chapter 2 if you like..but i don't want to start ;)

don't we need like 10 or 11 people total for this?

No, apparently a chain at Lit only takes two. Intimate Confessions and I are posting a seven chapter chain now. Two chapters are up.

I just finished a very funny piece - and 100% true story, too! I'm getting back into the spirit of this contest. It's fun, fun, fun!

Well, uhm, actually... it's in the Non-Erotic Category...:(

i'm sorry svenskaflicka, but i'm going to have to flog you publicly for leading us on

<wink>

(to everyone else - I think Svenska's too excited about this...) wink

I've read through the rules...

...and looked at this thread.
This contest seems really cool and definitely would be a huge challenge in terms writing excercise. :)

Ok, I'm in though I already now can say I probably won't scrape together that many points. LOL. It sounds too much fun though not to join, and this might be the best incentive I have to actually get my butt off the bed and start writing. :) (Didn't know Lit had 35 categories!)

Ok, questions. I get most of the rules but the whole immunity points thing is a bit confusing. If I get immunity points I can use them within a category I may not be keen to write a story for, correct? And after using that point I wouldn't need to write a story within that category the rest of the year?

What's the minimum word count for stories? And what's the minimum for novellas?

I already have a few poems up, do I count all of them or just the ones I post this year?

For the Illustrated stories category, it's only erotic stories that go in there, right?

Sorry about the questions, I'm sure they are answered somewhere in the thread, but I don't have the time to read it right now.

Well, I'll try to answer your questions, and if I'm wrong Chicklet can flog me later. Or maybe I might like that too much? Oh well, I'll let her decide!

First, welcome! Nice to meet another writer!

Immunity points are handed out by lottery, and you can use them in place of writing a story for a particular category. For example, some people don't have the means to translate their stories into another language, so they might use an immunity for that. Others simply don't like to write a particular genre, and may use an immunity for that. It is important to remember that immunity points are worth 2 points, but writing a story for that category is worth 3. And, from what I understand this year, you cannot take an immunity point, place it towards a category, and then later replace it with a story to gain more points. Suggestion: place immunity points wisely!

The minimum word count for a story at Literotica is 750 words. A story written with less than that number of words will be rejected. My rule of thumb is 2 pages on Word more than adequately qualifies. On a novella? I'm not certain. I thought I saw somewhere it was between 15,000 to 20,000. But remember, novellas are written in chapter form. It helps to break it up like that.

Only those stories accepted and posted to Lit during 2003 are qualified for Survivor. If you wrote a poem in December 2002, but it was accepted and posted to Lit until January 2003, you can use it in this year's Suvivor contest. However, if you write a something in December 2003, and it doesn't get posted to Lit until January 2004, you cannot use it.

Illustrated stories are just that - illustrated. They can be erotic or non-erotic, there is no qualification. Just as an illustrated poem can be erotic or non-erotic. The only thing, for the Survivor contest, is the illustration or picture must be something the author has created or picture the author took or a picture of the author.

Good luck!

Ah hem...<grin>

okay, if you submit something in december 2003 and it isn't accepted until 2004, it still counts towards survivor *if you want* - the only catch about that is that you can't count it towards survivor '04 - therefore, stories I submitted in December 2002 counted towards my win, but I can't count them towards this year's contest even though they weren't posted until January 3rd.

You did a great job, chele = )

Chele,
Thanks for the roundup and answers to my questions! :) I appreciate it. Now I just need to start writing...hehe I hope I have enough of an imagination for 35 categories!
 Well, at least it'd be a great challenge...

The tag line for the Illustrated category is "Erotica with accompanying original visual artwork." So doesn't that mean the illustrated stories have to be erotic?

Also lovepotion69 - the first entry in any category is worth three points, so your poem is worth 3, not 1.

Nikki,
From what I understand it the rules and scoring for poetry has changed. First poem 1 point and the next ones 1/3 point. That's the way I've understood it after reading about it, but with all the discussions I could have mixed it all up. Chicklet did I get it right?

We never changed the old rules. Too little support.

Oh, ok? All these threads and discussions keep confusing me after a while. Great, then I have 3 points then! :D

So how many days does it generally take before a story is up?
/LP

Three days, give or take. Stories are posted at midnight PST. (So you only have to bother checking once per day)

confirmation

just confirming for everyone that the poetry rules are the same - category cap is 8 pts.
